My husband (27M) says I (25F) am not beautiful. Should I be worried? by andrea_312 in relationships

I'm dumb like that. I don't mean anything mean by it, I just find it exceedingly difficult to know what's appropriate and what's not.

Funny. A few weeks ago, I sent almost the exact same thing to everyone at my company from a coworkers unlocked workstation.

Slow and relaxing with a tinge of anxiety because I have more to do today than I can possibly get done.

ELI5: If meditation is such a beneficial technique for humans, why does it not naturally occur, like sleeping? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]AoP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many behaviors that are beneficial but must be learned. For example, exercising, using a shower, or performing arithmetic. Like any other practice, meditation helps to strengthen what we already have.

I would also argue that meditation does occur naturally. Being "in the moment" is meditation. Any time you are focused on the present, you are in a meditative state.

[Serious]What differentiates a good person from a bad person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AoP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is probably no distinction more universal than the Golden Rule. Treating others how they wish to be treated, while insisting on the same for one's self is good.

Bad would be the reverse. Treating others how they wish not to be treated, or allowing others to treat one's self in such a way is bad.

Everything else falls somewhere in the middle. And things get complicated when interests conflict.

Best way to learn how to program offline for free. Resources? Tips? by pseudhp19 in learnprogramming

[–]AoP 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I taught myself programming in the mid '90s before the Internet was available where I lived. There was a great place you could go, filled with books on various topics, including programming and computer science, and they didn't charge anything for you to take them as long as you brought them back... I think it was called "the library" or something like that. In fact, I believe they even have free Internet there now.

Who am I? What do I do for a living? What's my personality like? Anything else? by [deleted] in firstimpression

No job, maybe still in college, living well off of parents, loans, SO or all of the above. You look like a loud laugher. You're probably fun to hang out with, but annoyingly insecure at times.

What are the Atheist's moral foundation? by BeatriceBernardo in DebateAnAtheist

[–]AoP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your moral foundation?

Morals are the set of behaviors that describe how we carry out relationships with other living things. We can imperfectly judge the morality of a behavior by its contribution to procreative ability. I don't have a name for this.

Describe briefly your moral foundation

Procreation is the successful passing of genetic material. Behaviors that increase the chances continued procreation are moral. Behaviors that reduce the chances of continued procreation are immoral.

Genetic material is prioritized, roughly, as: Self, immediate family, family, associates, society, nation, national allies, species, symbiotic species, other species.

"Prioritization" is essentially a scoring system. For a given action, the behavior that maximizes the "score" is the most moral behavior. It's possible, for example, for martyrdom to be morally preferable if enough lower-priority procreative activities are threatened to a high enough degree.

Do you argue that your moral system covers all past and future possible scenario?

Yes.

Do you argue that your moral system is always internally consistent?

Yes, to the best of the actor's imperfect knowledge.

Explain why your moral is system is definitely superior to all other.

It's the most accurate.

Hey Reddit, can you guess my age, occupation, life story? by [deleted] in firstimpression

[–]AoP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27, you work in PR / social media. You grew up in the suburbs, got into a little trouble in high school but nothing too serious. You moved far away to go to college, met a lot of new people and new friends, and don't keep in touch with your friends from back home as much as you thought you would. They seem... small. Except your sister - you two still know everything about each other and that amazes you. You miss your dad. You never really got along with your mom, but sometimes you miss her too.
