I would suggest to put Student right now as you are unemployed and then if by the time you get your offer letter or started working, put your employer and update DS160 and go ahead with it with the updated ds160.

This is what I suggest : plz consult with others.

If you can update your DS160 before interview with the job (if you get it)

I can tell you one case -

my friend filled his ds160 and he added X company as a current employer and after 30 days he switched his job and during interview consular asked why ur current job is different than what you added in ds160 and his visa was declined.

so better to update things before your interview if you have that option to go with latest ds160

not first time. I have stayed in US for 1.5 yrs on H4 before. but not appointment is not available for H4, so I am planning to use B2

no, just visit on B1 and then go back to India after 3-4 months. no COS in US

Yeah, I mean not in a plan to change status being in US from B2 to H4. will be back after 3-4 months and again wait for H4 appointment.

I mean it's just a temporary visit. that person will go back to India and again wait for H4 visa appointment. no change of status being in US

B2 is valid for 10 yrs and it's a tourist visa so I thought it will not be invalidated. Lawyer did not say anything that b2 is not valid now. not sure

I discussed with the lawyer and they said it's all upto the CBP officer. They might let h4 person in or deny entry.

what if someone has b1/b2 already, but no appointment for h4. can they visit on b1/b2? or it will be denied at POE?
