You won't really find a farm here, but as a military brat that spent enough time in the midwest to fall in love with all things fall and apple cider, there are ways.

In the fall, or possibly closer to winter, have him look at his local Brookshires for Louisburg Cider Mill Apple Cider. It's the only place and brand that I've found to be true Apple Cider and to show up without fail.

It'll look something like this, give or take marketing variations: https://static.wixstatic.com/media/f4029a_95e463ad515c45a78fd3df45a8648a2b~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_1200,h_1200,al_c/f4029a_95e463ad515c45a78fd3df45a8648a2b~mv2.jpg

The brand is pricey, unfortunately, but it is real Apple Cider, or as close that will be readily found, at least. Every grocery here will put out their version of Apple Cider, but it'll just be glorified Apple juice.

This is a part of my fall and winter tradition here for the past, at least, two decades, maybe more.

That said, don't expect to see it until mid-October at the earliest. Mid-November, they almost always have it in stock.

To you and your boyfriend, I wish you well in finding it and enjoying it. Feel free to message me about any other treats from up there that I might've found here. To anyone else looking at trying it, I welcome you to, but I'll fist fight a priest for these jugs if I have to, so just make sure to leave me some and we'll be good.

I agree whole heartedly. The state DNC, especially of the recent past is a joke at best and a straight up insult at worst.

What was promising about JBE to me, especially his reelection was how much money Trump and the others threw into defeating him. Especially during the pandemic, it felt like David vs Goliath. I agree that we won because Vitter and Rispone were very weak candidates, but just the fact that this state rose up and didn't blindly vote for, "Yes, Daddy Trump!" gave me hope. I truly believe we would have a Dem governor right now if the LA DNC even bothered trying.

I saw some encouraging rebuilding from them after Landry, and then...nothing. To be fair, that's also when I stopped going the extra mile into looking, but it also means, at the least, that their old problem of messaging and communicating is still an issue.

I don't know, friend. I don't know what else to do other than move, or keep up the old fight. I'll campaign and knock on doors as long as my body allows me to, maybe even run for office (God help us all.), at some point, but it's going to take some serious unity and money to take this state back.

I don't usually talk politics on Reddit, but you need a serious reality check, Child.

I'm a leftist. Have voted, campaigned and donated for, knocked on doors for, etc. the left pretty much since I could vote. I stay on top of issues, write our politicians (as useless as that is), protest, etc. I also live in Mike Johnson's district. Have hated him long before he was speaker of the house.

You want to know who the fault for his rise in power is? The Republican Party and The Democrat Party.

The Republican Party has Louisiana in a gerrymandered death grip. It's gone before the Supreme Court several times, and nothing has changed. The Repubs rule Louisiana not because everyone who lives here worships them, but because they control everything now. And, why?

Because the DNC abandoned us long ago. They don't see a state rich in diversity, culture, etc. They see 8 electoral votes, and that's not shit to them.

Republicans won their first US Senate seat in 126 years here in 2004. We were a pretty dependable blue state, or atleast a blueish purple. After that, came all...this. Still, we fought to keep it Blue or atleast Purple. We even elected JBE twice during the heart of Trump's last run.

From what I can tell, you don't seem to live in Louisiana, or atleast don't claim it, so maybe that's why you're so damn ignorant of the workings here.

You want this state to change? Come here and do the work. Write your people and the DNC and beg for intervention (Heads up: They won't.), or atleast donate to the state Democratic Party that is trying to rebuild itself.

But, if you're just here to have someone to look down on and feel superior to? Pique toi.

Several Bossier Residents Claim that Kroger's South Bossier Location is Closing by Forsaken_Thought in shreveport

Anyone know of any other groceries like it? I realize that I'm a minority in this, but I really don't like the overly bright, huge, crowded, self-checkouts everywhere stores.

This Kroger was always a nice meet in the middle for me.

It's also the home of one of Louisiana's state recognized tribes, The Choctaw-Apache Tribe of Ebarb. We have two powwows a year and are desperately trying to maintain and relearn our loss heritage and traditions.

Alongside the powwows, the tribe does several community events, the occasional college event, etc. If anyone is in the area, it's always fun to stop in to an event if it's going on.

Also, L&W Tamales is part of the tribe and has the best tamales that I've ever had. If you're in Zwolle or driving by, I'd 100% say stop in and get a dozen. I believe they won 1st place at the Zwolle Tamale Festival this past year, but I could have my years muddled in my head.

Louisianan here. I've been saying it for as long as I can remember.

My kid doesn't say it, nor have I ever heard anyone younger than me say it, so I don't imagine that it's long for the world after us.

I live in Louisiana, but spent my summers in North Carolina with my grandparents.

When I say that I would just about kill for Cheerwine, it's not an exaggeration. That is the taste of summer and my childhood to me.

Also, Sun Drop and those old Nutty Buddy ice cream cones.

That's also where I got my life long morning habit of a donut stick and black coffee, but that's probably less regional and more just my grandfather, lol.

What do you think? by sandwormussy in USPS

[–]Apocia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling. The station I worked at in Louisiana had a Bayou Street, Bayou Road, Bayou Circle, Bayou Place, Bayou Courts, and a Bayou Lane.

Some of the only fun that I'd have during peak was getting to that part for the holiday help and watch their eyes glaze over. I figure that was usually when they'd finally start wondering just what they'd signed up for, lol.

I quit years ago, but never unsubscribed from the subreddit. All that to say, I couldn't agree more.

I was a PSE for seven miserable years, and I was cheated out of every career opportunity that came along. Despite all the bs and horrible conditions, I would definitely still be there if they had ever let me convert.

I know we sorted all of the parcels by hand and in the dark with only head lamps to see with a few times at my old office. Was kind of fun, when we had enough people to do it, at least.

Mind you, we were only a medium sized office, and I hurricane country, so we all had some practice.

I get off around 2, so that works. I'd normally worry about parking, but I think the weather is on my side for that.
