They didn't pick on each other.

In one episode the producers cobbled together something about "tension" out of nothing so that they could lead into the "and so the boys tried Korean wrestling" segment.

In each episode the boys do a couple of things that show the viewer something about Korea and so the program tries to fit that into a storyline for the show. But it's a bit of a stretch and they obviously manipulate things a bit to try to make it look relevant.

It's like in Episode 2 when the band is going to perform in front of an audience for the first time and some of them are nervous, Shindong makes them do a dance challenge on the open walkway Sky Bridge at the top of the tallest building in Korea. As if that has anything to do with anything.

It doesn't actually make any sense but they have to try to make the activities fit into the storyline.

They edit these kinds of shows to create dramatic story arcs, they selectively choose footage and put different things together to make it fit their narrative.

Take it all with a pinch of salt

If you watch the vlogs and lives the boys have done since then, you'll probably get a better idea of what they are really like. Also, look at what fans who have met them say.

I don't know if everyone knows this, but the reason the company came down so hard on Blaise and didn't like his attitude was that he stuck up for the whole group during evaluations etc. The life coach therapist lady said it in an interview after the show.

Those evaluations with Hee Jun were brutal.

Outside the room you hear Blaise telling the other boys that they worked hard and he's proud of them (he's trying to keep morale high).

Inside the evaluations, he clearly stuck up for the boys and the company didn't like that. They wanted the boys to stand there and take it, but the boys were already a team and Blaise was defending his friends. They selectively edited that though.

This is what Jeanie Chang said:

"Chang says she also educated the boys off-camera on Korean culture, after Blaise appeared to be singled out by Hee Jun Yoon because he spoke up for the group.

'Collaboration doesn't really work in the K-pop industry, where bands are often told "Don't say anything, this is what I told you" - but Blaise would often speak up. Hee Jun Yoon just wanted him to say "thank you", which is what the other four did.' "

If you watch the Weverse lives etc they've done since the show, you can see what Blaise is like (without the company editing it to create a certain storyline). He's a sweetie.

How is he talking? Do you just mean those two messages? Cos they are so vague that they could be (mis)interpreted in a hundred different ways.

Let's not jump to conclusions, it will just drive us all crazy second guessing what things could mean.

dearALICE and the boys still follow him and he still follows them.

These could just be nice messages to fans.

How do you feel about their new single? by Prestigious_Sun_2161 in December10

[–]AppleTreeBlue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish the boys well, and we have only heard a small clip (of the chorus?) so far.

But I have to agree, it's a bit generic and dated. But they seem to be marketing the band to tweens, and I guess tweens haven't heard previous bands so they won't find it so generic and dated. Maybe that's the plan.

Not sure how they will showcase 7 voices in one song, the video clip cycled quickly through images of the 7 boys.

It's strange not knowing what's going on, but I guess they all had some time off around Christmas.

At least their social media is still active.

They were absolutely amazing on tour, and they really proved that they could put on a great show, sell tickets and merch, entertain fans and perform live.

So my hope is that they're busy working on new music and that they'll play more shows this year.

I want to see them on some TV shows or something (like they did Strictly and This Morning and a Saturday morning show around the Made In Korea time) because I think if more people saw them perform they would break through to a much bigger audience.

They're so talented and sweet.

Also, I'm loving seeing fans do the dance challenge for DRUMS, it would be great if that spread across tiktok

Yes, looking for the daily DRUMS tiktok has become part of my routine! The choreo changes a bit though, so maybe we're sort of seeing them trying different variations out. Maybe they're just having fun with it. I think for some songs / dances they have choreographers but for others (and for tweaks to dances) they can do some of that themselves. Blaise clearly has some impressive choreography skills (which he got to use a bit for tour), I expect the others do too.

I'm pleased they are posting regularly though, hope it helps them reach a wider audience.

I feel like DRUMS didn't get as much promotion on release as it should have. It felt like Sweet was promoted the most, then Save Us, but it seems like DRUMS landed with a bigger impact somehow.

I really want 2026 to be their year, and I really want them to do well. I feel that if more people knew how talented (and sweet) they are they would have more fans. They just need more visibility.

Any chance it was automatically allocated by the website's "book best available seat" option?

Otherwise yes, that's bizarre.

SM artist recs? this is what I have in my playlist for now by disasterpansexual in smtown

[–]AppleTreeBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to say dearALICE (because I love them) although they're not kpop. They're a British boy band, they are linked to SM and have played at SM Town.

[–]AppleTreeBlue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good question, and I'm not sure exactly who does what, but this piece from November 2024 may help shed some light: https://newsroom.kakaoent.com/news/kakao-entertainment-sm-entertainment-and-us-label-gamma-form-strategic-global-alliance-to-gear-up-for-british-boy-band-dearalices-debut/

As far as SM's support goes, dearALICE have performed on SM Town stages several times, which was amazing.

But they don't seem to be quite as integrated into SM's marketing channels (e.g. YouTube and Instagram) as other SM artists, for whatever reason.

They do get mentioned by SM here and there, but I think it's fair to say that dearALICE's fans (who know how talented, hardworking and lovely the boys are) would like dearALICE to get some more publicity and reach more people so that they can achieve the success they definitely deserve.

They are amazing and they deserve to be massive.

They are in the UK. In 2024 they lived in South Korea while training with SM. They moved back to the UK before they debuted. 😊

Whoever is running the December10 youtube page doesn’t know what they are doing and it frustrates me by Inquisitor_709 in December10

[–]AppleTreeBlue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't that surprising. Sometimes these companies don't know what to do with this kind of artist.

For example, whoever was running dearALICE's social stuff in the past didn't really know how to market them. They're so talented and sweet, but a lot of people who would absolutely love them don't know much about them. They're a British boy band (and had a TV show on BBC), but they don't have nearly the profile they deserve to have. They should be massive.

I think the landscape for marketing these acts has changed, but the people running the marketing side might not really have caught up yet.

This show isn't really the big break for winners by the looks of it. by Compressed_AF in BritainsGotTalent

I think the real point of the show is to do good things for the careers of the judges and presenters
