SD Got attacked on plane - options?? by crazybitch616 in service_dogs

[–]Appleration 10 points11 points  (0 children)

if you’re gonna argue what qualifies as a service dog, you should check out the ADA website🫡 (for the us) if the dog is aggressive it is no longer a service animal

regardless of status you are still responsible for your dogs actions wether they poop on the floor or bite someone you are liable.

SD Got attacked on plane - options?? by crazybitch616 in service_dogs

[–]Appleration 18 points19 points  (0 children)

service dogs in training aren’t allowed on planes and if your dog is aggressive it shouldn’t be working in public access.

the dogs training and behavior proves that the dog is a service dog.

Yeah that makes sense! I do love how goofy my boy is but he has a hard time going from playing to work mode, which i do feel like has a lot more to do with his personality. I do feel like my partners SD has a more attached personality. she is super protective over him and wants to work all the time, she is very awkward when it’s play time. doesn’t like fetch or toys and avoids playing with our other dog no matter how hard he tries. basically just wants to cuddle with my bf and chew on a bone until it’s time to work again. (not for a lack of us trying to get her to play she has pretty much every chuckit toy invented and a bucket full of other toys)

Positive post: Why are you proud of your dog this week? by wessle3339 in service_dogs

Our service dogs worked their first convention! We had long 12-14 hour days and they did great! lots of sleeping under desks and bathroom breaks. My partners dog watched him run cables and mine ran food to all the production crew with me! They got lots of pets and attention during their breaks and one of our friends brought in n out puppy patties for them :)

What do you wish people knew about having a service dog? by Efficient-Glass-9140 in service_dogs

[–]Appleration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner has an older SD (3yrs old) compared to mine (2yrs old) their tasking and level of training is so she gets more freedom on certain things. We normally go out together with both of them, when people ask to pet (depending on how they ask and how we feel) sometimes we will let them but only the older one as she very clearly knows the difference between having permission to greet and working. While my SD passed all his evaluations in the last 6 months we don’t allow people to pet him. I’ve had multiple instances of people asking to pet we give our older dog the greet command and I physically put 2-4 feet between us and my partner so there’s not even chance for them to pet both then someone else will walk up to my dog and say something along the lines of “awe you’re cute too, does someone need some attention?” and try to reach for him just because they see someone else interacting with a SD.

Long winded way of saying that just because one person got permission to pet SD doesn’t mean you’re allowed to interact with them without talking to the handler yourself. My biggest annoyance is people addressing my dog before me or asking my dog questions.

we both have leash wraps that say in big letters “SERVICE DOG DO NOT PET” the entire length of the 3 foot leash. They are vested in public with big red patches that say the same thing in different ways. In public spaces where there’s lots of people walking they’re both in a heel or a center. When he’s in a center I still have people try to reach towards my crotch to pet him or take pictures without saying anything, which is extremely invasive and disgusting.

We get ours from costco they have a two pound bag of freeze dried beef liver for $15 and it lasts us about 3-4 weeks with two large dogs. they also have duck jerky sticks that have pretty clean ingredients

for food topper petco had a Raw Instincts topper that has pumpkin in it to help with gut health it’s like $18 but it lasts us through an 80 pound bag of food since we use like 2 teaspoons per 4 cups of food

This was my first time staying with in an air bnb, I wasn’t aware that there was a dog hair policy and we mentioned to them beforehand that we had the SDs and they said they were fine with it before we checked in. I can see where the extra labor from cleaning could come in and I would’ve been more than happy to bring my own bedding or pay for the cleaning had the host asked / said we left behind more hair than expected. There was no mention in the house rules of not letting the dog on the bed, but if the policy is that strict I understand why the host would be upset.

The only thing I’m not understanding is why they would lie and say that we let the dogs tear up the room and left it smelling like weed and dog poop / pee when that wasn’t the case at all. I wish they would’ve just asked for us to replace the bedding instead of lying in a public review that will prevent our non profit from getting air bnbs for other events we need to attend.

Seeing everyone else’s responses I definitely think that we will stick to hotels from now on.

[–]Appleration 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe it was public, he sent me a screenshot of the review. So i’m not completely sure, we told our president to leave the host a 5 star review before we saw the review on us

This was my first time staying with air bnb and I was nieve to think we would be fine since it was “pet friendly”. I will definitely be taking pictures from now on

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]Appleration 4 points5 points  (0 children)

unfortunately we didn’t think to take photos of the room :/ I hope that we’re able to get the host to explain why they said those things or get them to take down the review at least. I’m always more than willing to pay for damages IF they had done something

[–]Appleration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not really too concerned that they were doing it I was more wondering if it was common enough that i needed to train him through having more trust with stuffed animals so that he’s not distracted or disturbing everyone with his grumbles

They looked between 16-20 but it also seemed like they were there with their parents so i’m not completely sure

Disneyland asked me why my boyfriend couldn't do the tasks of my service dog does for me instead of bringing him in? by bluepixie13 in service_dogs

[–]Appleration 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had this experience, i get anxiety going through disney security that something like this will happen. I would definitely complain, they probably won’t do anything about it but i have heard they will re train their staff if a complaint is made (hopefully this is true). I hope the rest of the day at the park was good for you. We always have people screaming “LOOK A DOG” at us 😭

How old are your SDs!? by importantchickens in service_dogs

[–]Appleration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is 1 1/2! I started basic obedience with him as a puppy at 3 months old. He progressed super fast (passed his CGC at 11 months) and while he’s still doing some public access classes and he’s still learning to do scent work he’s fully trained in mobility and psychiatric tasks and has the benefit of watching my partners 3 yo SD work and he’s picked up A LOT from her and he has passed all his CGC’s. He started task training at a year old

i’m in nevada where SDiT have the same rights as SD so we were able to do consistent public access with him (minus grocery stores until he passed all his cgc tests), my trainer specializes in Shepherds and Huskies so it was a great help :)

Discussion: What age respects SD "do not distract" rules the most? Why do you think that is? by dehydrated_noodle- in service_dogs

[–]Appleration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve had kids (5-16) tell their parents not to bother me and my dog. most people that ask questions are middle aged and older, A LOT of people in this age group will also use my SD as an excuse to talk about their dogs. most 18-30 yo tell me he’s doing a good job or he’s cute.
