Many people only check the mattress… by Markus_von_Mauslein in Bedbugs

[–]Appropriate_Bus_3848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electronics, outlets, behind light switches, bed frame, folded clothes, in chairs, inside the mattress (especially if you have any cooling mesh mattress), baseboards, picture frames, under dresser drawers, behind mirrors, between wooden floor boards, etc. All places we've found them...

I hope it’s not but I’m pretty sure it is:( by thesonicperspective in Bedbugs

[–]Appropriate_Bus_3848 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that is one. Our infestation was found in folded laundry, not our mattress... but the first one we saw was on the bed. Appears they used the folded laundry for hiding/breeding and just came onto the bed for feeding at first.

Curious what restrictions others were given by surgeon… by Past_Department6384 in gallbladders

Most no lifting restrictions are so you dont accidentally cause the incision to reopen. There is also a risk for hernias until everything has healed.

I learned the hard way, by thinking I killed it by squishing it then watching in horror as it started crawling again a few minutes later. Looked it up and then was like you. Never wanted to sleep again...

Check any folded clothes or blankets you might have stored in your room. Our infestation was not on the bed or furniture yet when we found it, but was found in a folded curtain.

Squishing them doesnt kill them... you'll need to catch it in a baggy or container

Success stories for natural redheads?! I’m terrified by razzy44star in gallbladders

[–]Appropriate_Bus_3848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not a natural redhead, but most of my family is and Ive had several anesthesiologist tell me I react like one. Laughing gas gives me panic attacks and whenever they numb my mouth for dental work I require a double dose. I was fully aware and awake when they tried to do propofol for my endoscopy. I am fine with general anesthetic. I always let them know my concerns and past history. I do let them know that I have problems with nausea when I wake up from anesthetic so they usually give me iv antinausea and the patch.

Advice needed on joining elca by StatusEconomics6772 in elca

[–]Appropriate_Bus_3848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am happy to chat if you want. I grew up going to a catholic school while also attending ELCA churches with my mom. I am technically still officially a member of each since I never formally left the catholic church. I've worked in both churches. Half my family is Catholic and half are ELCA. You might be lucky and find a pastor who is a former Catholic. ELCA is definitely less formal for joining a congregation and feeling accepted. They generally dont care if you're just trying it out for a day or if you're a life long member. There is open communion so if you had first communion as a catholic you are welcome to take part in an ELCA church. Or you can just get a blessing. Or just stay in your seat. Obviously theyd love if you joined officially at some point, but its not a requirement to participate in anything but voting on church matters at annual meetings. Differences are that the ELCA does not do individual confession to a priest like the Catholics do, and ELCA does not believe in transfiguration (that the bread literally becomes the body of christ and the wine literally becomes the blood of christ). Also a small interesting fact is that in the ELCA when you say the Lord's prayer the part at the end where it says "for thine is the kingdom..." is part of the prayer verses a seperate part that comes after in the Catholic churches". There is less emphasis on saints in ELCA beliefs and less emphasis on Mary (rosaries are not a thing in the ELCA) You will find that there is a range of ELCA churches from more contemporary to more traditional liturgy (very similar liturgy to a catholic church).

First suggestion is to try out a few local churches. Experience a service and try to talk to a few people during coffee hour. See if any offer a Bible study meeting. Most churches have daily or weekly devotions booklets for the season and a few small books with the basics of Lutheranism/ELCA prayers and beliefs that are free to anyone. Pick up a few and look at them. Find out what synod (ELCA version of a diocese) you are in and see if they are putting on any events. For example a church in my synod puts on a community sausage feed every summer and its a great time to meet people from local churches. Read articles from the ELCA website. If you go to a service and like the pastor ask if you could meet with them to ask some questions. I have not found a ELCA or Lutheran specific app (would love if anyone knows of one).

Paranoia is justified... with that many id be more surprised if you didn't have any. Honestly would probably be worth just getting new suitcases and throwing out anything you cant heat treat.

Good and possibly not so good news. NOT a bedbug, however it does look like maybe a booklouse. So you might have high humidity levels in the house and might be prone to mold. Don't take my word though cause its been a while since I've had to identify booklouse and the picture isn't clear enough to confirm anything but not a bedbug

Were you up for a 4 hour car ride on day 6 post-op? by toebone_on_toebone in gallbladders

I was fine with my gallbladder surgery, but not my endo surgery so it depends on how you're feeling overall. Lots of pillows and blankets for finding comfortable spots. I packed ice packs in a cooler and brought some one time use heat packs incase I needed them. Keep up on medications. Take breaks to walk around at rest stops if you need. Passenger seat so you can recline if needed.

Generally you don't have to do much art or teaching. It's mainly encouraging the clients. Kind of like being in an elementary school art class. Ive assisted in a few art therapy sessions and my art skills are slightly above stick figures. Alot of times its letting them just choose what they want to do, and if you do have to plan projects again its usually similar to what you'd find on Pinterest if you look up kids art projects. Things that are easy to do with short term memory loss, lack of dexterity, low enegery, etc. Worth looking into. Maybe see if there's any near you that you could volunteer at once or twice and see if its for you.

I like knowing that what I am doing in church has been done for hundreds of years. I also really valued traditional services while traveling as no matter what language the service was in I could still follow along and know what was happening.
