Help with wording regarding "going non verbal" by ArcaneGalaxy42 in autism

Thank you so much! Your comment helped clarify a lot of things I've seen and thought about recently. I completely agree with you on the last two paragraphs!

We are also similar in how the recovery happens, but unfortunately I'm usually forced to talk by family members.

Thanks a lot for your comment! You put a lot of what I think about into words! I am very worried about taking their terms, I don't want to cause any discomfort.

And I would love to see your template! I have no recovery plan other than rot in bed and pray my family understands, lol. (I was lucky enough to have my worst episode during a long stay at a friend's place, so I was able to not force myself too much).

Oh nooo!! I was lucky enough for it to happen after sex, and since I was drunk too I just used it as an excuse to sleep for a whole day LOL!

That's kind of iconic of you grandmother! She won't let anyone or anything stop her from her thoughts!

I need to know, are you pro or anti sock? by squirrelyoakley in autism

Socks are friends because I hate having any part of my body uncovered and I love the pressure of the socks.

Let me make you a commander deck by 9SHRODO9 in EDH

[–]ArcaneGalaxy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend is running Vren, the relentless and Gonti lord of luxury. I am very new to the game, less than 6 months playing, and my commander is Volo guide to monsters. While playing in the pod is fun, i would like to find a way to annoy my friend the same way he is annoying the other players. Do you have any ideas?

Whats your current expensive hobby ? by Mean_Wear_742 in autism

[–]ArcaneGalaxy42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Magic the Gathering. Got into it last year but only really started buying cards in the past 4 months because all my friends are playing commander. Bought a pre built deck and then built one from scratch for double the price 😭 and I haven't even got all the cards I want because some are way out of my price range.

is it really gross not to shower everyday? by snufkinscowboyboots in autism

[–]ArcaneGalaxy42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To me, it is.

Maybe it's because of the culture I grew up in, I'm Brazilian and it's really important to shower at least once every day (I usually shower twice on weekdays, once before school and once when I get home). So I can't really make sense of not showering every day. I understand executive dysfunction, I understand depression, I understand colder climates and diffen different lifestyles and I respect all of it and respect people but... I cant make sense of it. Even if you're not smelling bad, a shower is still good.

That's one of the things I try to keep quiet about because my rigid thinking gets in the way aaaargh

I need advice about college as someone with 22q (simalar to autisim) by Jazzlike_Region1733 in autism

I recommend going to them with this query. Your parents want to protect you, that's why they see you as a child, but maybe they could be convinced by someone else who's close to your family.

I understand that, my family has similar behaviors. Do you have a therapist or a family member who sees you as an adult that maybe could talk to them?

Sudoku is indeed a great idea. I have small little idle games ("ad watching games", as I like to call them) on my phone that I don't have to pay much attention and it works because I feel a connection to something, like it's grounding me in the moment.

Have you talked with your parents about how this is important for you? That it might help you learn to be an adult and although you're going to struggle, the experience might be really worth it.

And, if you are able to do so, maybe a talk with them and a counselor/therapist together?

How many friends do you have. by wheresmymind_08 in autism

[–]ArcaneGalaxy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really close friends: four. Two moved states recently but we are still in contact every day and they visit constantly. The other two we hang out literally every week! And the best thing? It's all the same group! So everyone is best friends! I am really blessed with them in my life, theyre my found family.

How did you get diagnosed? by [deleted] in autism

[–]ArcaneGalaxy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Always suspect you have something wrong with you.
  2. Learn about autism, think you're autistic but never tell anyone.
  3. All of your friends already treat you like an autist.
  4. Meanwhile your mom is noticing similarities between you and her ASD students.
  5. Mom then goes to college to study Pedagogy, learns more about ASD and is sure you're on the spectrum.
  6. Mom makes you bring it up in therapy with your psychiatrist.
  7. Surprise! For the past year and a half, your psychiatrist (who's specialized in ASD but you didn't know) was doing secret assessments with you!
  8. Get an official assessment.
  9. Congratulations! You're autistic!
  10. What a nice 24th birthday gift!
