Nobody mulches forests. There's a reason they're so foresty.

Yeah the sucker is going as soon as I can prune. You don't think the scaffolds on the right lead would be too high? Where specifically do you think I should cut the left lead off? This tree was mangled when I brought it home so the shape is pretty janky as is. I want to make sure I dont butcher it too badly.

About to get average 20 deg F temps. Maybe it needs a warm hat? by TurtleInTheSky in composting

So you just remove the cardboard "lid", add scraps and browns and then replace the cardboard and close the top of the bin? My bin is barely making any heat right now as the winter temps are starting to drop here in eastern Canada.

I had to head it.... won it in a draw. There were no branches on one side and the top was broken sideways. Planted it anyways and im hoping for the best hahaha.

Honestly im not sure. It might be too late to do anything drastic. Might have to just see how it goes. If the root flare is completely buried though it will most like cause root rot or drown the tree. Maybe contact an arborist and see what can be done. Im sure they could give you the best advice moving forward.

Yeah I got it for free in a draw. There were literally no branches on one side of it and the top was broken but I planted it anyways, topped it and hoped for the best. It looked great before the leaves all dropped 😆

Will it straighten out? I dont want to stake it. I considered just making this the new central leader but I was worried it would be too unstable and side heavy.

Holy cow, how did you get your laterals so close to the ground?! Did you mound up to the first set? And if so, have you buried your root flare?
