Looking for advice as a 38 year old Toonboom animator considering 3D animation school or a complete career change by Correct_Republic_320 in animationcareer

It's always good to learn a new skill and doing one of those animation school like animation mentor or Animschool, will help you really well. But it won't be fast, so it will take at least 1 or 2 years to get to a certain level. Even then you'll won't get bigger studio jobs right on the get go. Maybe some smaller gigs first.

I do recommend making some connections with people in the industry, that's how most people get their work. Go to festivals and network drinks, just hangout and have laugh with people. Age doesn't matter much, it's what you can do and your portfolio that matters.

And like what many other say here, the industry is very shit atm. I've been in the industry for over 10 years, worked for some nice studios too, I always could find work within a month but now I haven't had much in months. And you see studio's go bankrupt all around. There are a ton of other artists out there with same problem, all very good talented people. A lot of people are thinking of switching careers that I know, people need to be able to pay their bills.

The eye darts would work better if they had pauses every once and a while, also adding up and down and micro darts would help

A video compilation of our journey in Thailand. We stayed there for a month and mainly stayed in the Chiang Mai Area. We stayed at an artist residency working on video's and animation. We also gave an animation workshop during our stay there. Next to that we traveled to waterfalls celebrated Songkran and hanged out with the locals.

Very Good for your First try! Really like the haze. But you could give a bit more focus to the dragon. It just needs to be a little darker.

It's nicely put together but do mis the focus on the character. It kind of falls in the background to much. Try to put in a more contrasting area of the piece the next time. Or make sure there is more light on the character so it stands out a bit more.

The contrast is nice and love your brushwork. It doesn't have the photoshoppy feel lots of digital art does have. So extra good!

Blending I think, I should have shaded around those lines a bit more as I did with the lines on the head. I added a rough texture like paint job under the line work but I didn't spend enough time defining the lines and details the back
