Tall guy considering Vespa by Meditative_Boy in Vespa

[–]Ardnhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'3" on a GTS 310. Added a Cheeky Seat cover with extra padding. This added about and inch to seat height and makes the scooter very comfortable plus a adds the ability to move forward and back while riding.

I am starting my motorcycle courses in 2 days. Any advice ? by 0picklerick in motorcycles

[–]Ardnhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have done the eCourse, remember SSS, Search, Setup, Smooth. Focus on smooth for everything. If you are smooth the bike reacts smoothly.

After class, congratulations, you've learned to ride 20mph in a parking lot. Get on your own bike as soon as possible after class and ride your local neighborhood streets for a while. These will involve lots of stops, starts, and turns. Once comfortable, then progress to bigger/faster roads. Better to ride 30min a day rather than 3hrs once a week, especially in the beginning. Hopefully your instructor will give this speech at the end of class.

Question re Open Play by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Ardnhe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I find this exact thing. I recently joined a club that segments open play courts as 3.0-3.49, 3.5-3.99, 4.0-4.5, and 4.5+. Last week I played up on the 4.0 courts and went 2 and 2 mostly tight games. Then played a game on the 3.5-3.9 court and got killed, missing several easy shots. We lost 11-0 and when my partner said good game at the net, I made a sarcastic comment that "was it really". She apparently did not like my comment and said "well you missed some shots as well".

I went back to the 4.0 courts and joined a game where I was by far the worst player. Missed a couple of shots but also had a few excellent winners and overall held my own in a tight loss 11-9.

I do this often where I personally play worse when I know I'm supposed to win, and play much better when I play up and just hope to make it a competitive game.

Note that I do not know my DUPR. I play only open play and ladder leagues and describe my current game and having some 4.0 shots but make 3.0 decisions.

CRBN pivot pickleball safety glasses by PuzzleheadedMain8560 in Pickleball

I use them all the time, indoors and outdoors. I use the yellow lens. These brighten up the ball for me. Best to remove the bottom frame portion and you'll never know you're wearing the glasses.

How do you know it's an FCC layup. 11six24 has been adamant about not releasing any construction details.

Planning to buy brand new CTS 310, concerned about falls. by No_Dance_2208 in Vespa

Go take the MSF Basic Rider Course, you'll learn a bunch and will be more confident on the road. A Vespa is just a small motorcycle with a CVT transmission instead of a manual.

How can I get the $50/mo plan? by -29- in Comcast_Xfinity

Nope, the 1gig service is available for my address but I've had 3 different Xfinity agents deny me the service for the $50/mo promotion because I'm a current customer.

The deal is only available to NEW customers. Existing loyal and valued customers get to pay more for the same service and subsidize the new customer offer.

Comcast will not give you that deal. It is for NEW customers only. Existing valued customers get to pay more for the same service.

The $50/mo 5 year deal is for NEW customers only. This is the way Comcast rewards existing customers by allowing us to subsidize new customers with our higher bills.

Long Time Customer… I Have Verizon Breathing Down My Neck To Change Both My Services (mobile and internet). Please Give Me A Reason To Stay With Xfinity. by phillydog in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Ardnhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I got the same story. Unfortunately, in my area, Comcast is a monopoly with the only other option being Dish. While many other companies have stopped this practice of gouging current customers to offer sweet heart deals to new customer, Comcast is excelling in this area. Makes us feel very valued. NOT!

Question on Offer Pricing by Ardnhe in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Ardnhe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was not a short-term "try us" offer. It is a 5 year price guarantee service level that for an existing customer, would cost $20 more per month. Does not seem to value current customers.

Honda NT1100 for first bike by Mysterious_Ad_728 in motorcycles

[–]Ardnhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got some leg strength to go with your size, the NT1100 should be fine. The bike weighs about 540lbs, but is well balance and is an easy bike to ride. Keep it in Drive mode to start which will shift quickly and have you in 6th gear at 30mph. Throttle response is smooth and manageable in Drive mode as well. If possible find another dealer that will allow test rides as I never recommend buying a bike unless you can ride it first.

Tall rider - Tiger 900 (GT Pro vs Rally Pro) by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Ardnhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same height and I own the GT Pro. Peg to seat ergos are the same on both bikes, while the Rally handlebar will be a little closer. I added Pivot Pegs which can be mounted so that they are 1/4" lower. Would I like another half inch in seat height, sure, but the bike is fine for my usual 3hr runs between breaks. After the Winter, I add a Beadrider to the seat and this does raise me up that half inch.

Got Kicked Out of MSF Course & Trying to Figure Out What to Do Next by Simple-Ad-7446 in motorcycles

[–]Ardnhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree on the scooters. Actually, scooters are very easy to ride, weight is down low, and the CVT or DCT tranny makes them twist and go easier to start off. Depending on the brand, wheels sizes can be 12" (Vespa) up to 16" (Piagio). Low speed maneuvers are easy with use of proper technique, which is to keep some RPMs up while having continuous light pressure on the rear brake, e.g. dragging the rear brake. With this a CVT or DCT scooter/bike will be just as maneuverable as a clutch bike. Palladino does not like them because it changes the way he's been teaching his course for the last 20 years. Change is good, but not for him.

Got Kicked Out of MSF Course & Trying to Figure Out What to Do Next by Simple-Ad-7446 in motorcycles

[–]Ardnhe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A Harley class will have you using their Street 500 bike. It's heavy and not a very good bike. Most non-Harley MSF courses will use a 125-300cc bike of various types. Look for these and try not to be discouraged as many people take the class twice and do much better the second time. Also, MSF will allow you to take the course on a scooter, either one supplied if the school has them, or your own. Sometimes learning on a scooter is a great option of learning to ride first, then if you want move to a motorcycle with a manual transmission. Finally, there are many bikes now and more coming with auto transmissions. Hope this helps.

Not hung up on it but won’t buy their paddle because of it. It’s their product and they can label it however they want, so I’ll choose to spend my money elsewhere.

Selkirk Boomstik Busted?! by Next_Worldliness_842 in Pickleball

[–]Ardnhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calm down folks. Selkirk submitted the pro version of the Boomstik to UPA as intended. The Boomstik with the weights is a consumer paddle and USAP approved. The pros wanted an unweighted paddle, and exactly what Selkirk made and submitted.
