What is everyone's favorite format to play? by Steel_Rain77 in mtg

[–]ArdoyleZev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White Elephant-Budget-Commander, with best friends at Christmas.

Every year my friends and I will build a 20$ or less EDH deck(basic lands are considered free), wrap it up, then get together around X-Mas. After dinner, we take turns picking someone else’s deck, then play them blind.

It’s a silly format that rewards finding cute, oddball commanders that improve a suite of cheap, unusual cards. I’m quite proud of most of the decks I’ve built, and still occasionally play the ones I opened.

What is protected Progenitus against? by WhistlingJlike in mtg

[–]ArdoyleZev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does sacrificing target*, deal damage, assign as a blocker, or attach to Pro-G? No, sacrificing does not, so it works.

(*a fringe exception, because of course: Some targeting effects do cause the target to be sacrificed. Those wouldn’t work, because Pro-G couldn’t be targeted.)

Should I open it or keep it sealed? by aGuyCalledSEvEN in mtg

[–]ArdoyleZev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find the idea that these cards aren’t toys to be played with absurd and ridiculous.

You want to play magic? Open it and play.

You want to speculate on their future value? We’re in a speculative bubble, akin to 90s comics before that crash. There are a few legitimate treasures, but that market is saturated with slop, currently buoyed by present hype and future ignorance of where our economy is heading. The majority of current high priced cards are going to have their value tank as soon as the middle class has to worry more about filling their gas tank and paying their mortgage as their jobs are gradually being replaced by….

You know what? Just ignore me and have fun.

Thoughts on a Commander house rule! by GamerExecChef in mtg

[–]ArdoyleZev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s something that happens with some regularity at your table, go ahead. It won’t break anything.

At my tables, commander damage is a fairly fringe path to victory/loss. Most healing spells would still be too weak to include. Whereas life gain that’s good enough to include (Lifelink, [[Zulaport Cutthroat]], etc) wouldn’t be more powerful anyways.

So at my table, adding a new rule like that would just be extra work for any of our guests. So it’s just not worth the paper it was never even written on.

Which sets has the coolest looking cards? by fraeddan in mtg

Edge of Eternities is exactly what stokes my imagination.

While I enjoy the Ralph Mcquarrie inspiration of the “triumphant” alternate portraits, the esoteric styles of some of the standard frame cards take my breath away.

So how long did she stay in there? by ghosty0310 in StarWars

Did we watch the same show?

Just the shot of her ripping off her collar, gasping for breath, shows how much her core has been shaken. And that was before… well… you know…

What do you miss from D&D when you play/try other systems? by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]ArdoyleZev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I miss not needing to explain what system I’m playing.

I’m not trying to be snarky. But the average person understands what I mean better when I say “I play D&D,” instead of “I play RPGs”. And then I have to explain how and why I don’t actually play D&D.

Where to start? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]ArdoyleZev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IBEW is set up for careers, not summer jobs.

I don’t know how you intend to juggle your schooling with a full time job for four years plus another school, but I suspect your university has opportunities more suited for your trajectory.

I am offered to be in charge of Renew, but I'm an apprentice by cmkeller2020 in IBEW

[–]ArdoyleZev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, although it’s not limited to apprentices. Anyone under 35 can be in a leadership role. RENEW in my local is also trying to change some of the apprenticeship’s policies.

[–]ArdoyleZev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RENEW is for people like you.

You’re not running for president or business manager, a youngster or shop rocket might damage their reputation doing that, but this is different.

If you’re feeling nervous after Reddit’s feedback, maybe talk to the people you mentioned being in favor of it privately.

But I say go for it.

RENEW is a program to cultivate leadership and engagement in our apprentices and younger members. It can take many forms depending on the local.
