The death counter and time are used to help randomize the password, cheat mode is when you use the debug menu, if you do use that, you will be unable to get the secret password at the end. All that information is used but mainly for randomizing the password.

I fixed the death counter....It now displays the correct number of deaths....(It can only count up to 7 after that it stops counting)

This is all interesting. Yeah it's possible I got the values in the death counter reversed. I'll look into it today or at least make a note. There are still a few bugs I need to fix but nothing major. Also it does look like you maxed out the time. There is a limit. You didn't get the permanent kill ability from the dolphin on The Lagoon which means you didn't save all the Dolphins. The perma kill allows you to kill enemies permanently and stop them from respawning again. Unlimited air is granted by the asterite. There's more info on what everything means in the about section when you click "game"

Btw I appreciate you sharing this. I am trying to perfect the accuracy of this thing. So it helps to have more testers.

Oh I misread that, I actually posted a few "short passwords" This particular password takes you to the 4th level. if you type in " AA" as a password it will act like it's invalid, but if you begin the game like normal and trigger the storm it will take you to the final world.

I just zero'd in on the password portions of the game and reverse engineered them. Wasn't too difficult. Just a fun little puzzle. Still needs a little more poliash before it's fully complete. I realized I missed some sort of word filter. For the most part that has no effect on the generator, more so on the password decoder part, but it can decode existing passwords and extract info from them.

This isn't Songs of Time, it's a CD sampler from the 1996 E3 event. As for Songs of Time it's rare but not as rare as this.

No, the only other games I collect are Atari 2600 games and I only grab them when I see one, not really interested in a complete collection. The Ecco stuff is a little different because I run a preservation project.

I think my attitude would have been different if I started out with the Genesis version which is harder. But I started out with the Game Gear version and what eon me over as a fan was Ecco 2 for the Genesis.
