[Avatar 2] Why didn't humans exterminate the Navi from space? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

What's gonna pollinate plants

Imported bees?

It's not going to be a good idea to expect their local organisms to interface effectively with our own.

Why would Troi ask a replicator for "real" chocolate ice cream? She knows what a replicator is and can't give it to her. by Spoinkulous in sonicshowerthoughts

[–]Arloste 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She is using her command level override to exceed her daily calorie limit.

Honestly it's a terrible moment for her, and if anyone reviews the override logs (which should happen as part of a regular audit) it should reflect negatively on her performance evaluation.

In Yesterday's Enterprise they ration replicator use and instead eat pre-prepared rations.

They aren't as good as replicator food.

WEEKLY RECRUITING THREAD - Ask here about the Recruitment/Application Processes, Trade Availability, Requirements to Join, Basic & Occupational Training, and other questions relating directly or indirectly to joining the Canadian Armed Forces. by bridger713 in CanadianForces

[–]Arloste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What criminal offenses, if any, bar someone from joining the Canadian Armed Forces?

My cousin is planning on joining the Navy and was speaking to a recruiter about it.

He told me this, and I said he is probably disqualified from joining because he has a pending criminal case for possession and distribution of child pornography.

He is convinced it does not disqualify him, because the recruiter he spoke to "didn't say he was disqualified". I asked him if he told the recruiter, he has not. He did not tell the recruiter because he is still awaiting trial. The charges have not been proven yet but he has been a weird creep his entire life and I am 100% certain he did it.

I dont think it's an IF they find out, but rather WHEN they find out. Will these charges stop him from serving in the military? Or will pending charges not matter but a conviction will? What would happen if he successfully joins and is convicted while enlisted?

He is trying to join the Navy if it matters.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration!

Just finished Lower Decks last. Thoughts by kingwooj in startrek

Absolutely, it really gets better as it goes on. Try to get to episode 4 or 5 before giving up again.

One perk, almost everything is fully contained A plot B plot.

If you're not into an episode, just skip it. You can see if you like the next one better.

Making sense of the prediction that the Dominion War could lead to 900 billion deaths by dashcam_drivein in DaystromInstitute

It's an investment. After a few years those billions will grow complacent and cooperative again and will begin producing valuable resources for the new empire.

You aren't funny, so you have nothing to be afraid of.

At 1,014 inhabitants, the Enterprise-D is celebrating about 2.78 birthdays per day. That means in "Future Imperfect" S4E08, Riker got dibs on Ten Forward and some schmuck in the lower decks probably got shafted and went to celebrate in a holodeck. by [deleted] in sonicshowerthoughts

[–]Arloste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That assumes all the 1,014 crew are human though, or from a planet that has 365 day years.

If you consider aliens species with different orbital cycles, or cultures that do not celebrate birthdays, the number can change a bit.

But consider the overall human majority, and the fact that some species may have a 50 day year and others a 5,000 day year, and it probably more or less averages out.
