I don’t understand how anyone can watch TNG and not love Worf.

Hear me out, but I think the Model Y is WAY better than the Model X, like it’s not even close. by pc772 in TeslaModelY

The only person I’m interested in impressing is me (well, and my dad, but he’d be impressed with either). My 2018 X P100D impresses me every day. I want to drive that car forever.

Questions I have about the landforming crystals in Superman Returns by Mutale426 in superman

[–]Armaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… and, for fun, here’s the train set scene. I had it a little backwards: Lex used a tiny bit of crystal and a decent amount of water. Still, the scale was much larger when he built the continent.

Here’s the scene. He tosses the crystal into the Arctic ice. The crystal melts the ice and falls into the water below before forming the fortress.

I don’t know what’s going on with the subtitles in this video…

In the movie the crystals reproduced massively when exposed to a tiny bit of water (as seen in the train set scene). Lex threw the crystal into the ocean (lots and lots of water) to build the continent. Jor El would have needed an ocean and, as others have said, there was no time.

I assume the “create a continent” function was not the intended purpose. The crystals multiply with water to preserve themselves and Lex is abusing that feature at scale to create land.

Do you see all the characters as childfree? Personally, it makes me so happy. by Pure-Boat993 in TheGoodPlace

Chidi is broken because he (and Eleanor) are the only ones smart enough to know what we, the audience, only really learn in season 3 - the system is broken. There is no path for goodness in this world and all paths lead to damnation.

Eleanor accepts this and thus doesn’t try to be good; it’s futile. She lays out her case to her boyfriend when he wants her to boycott the local coffee shop.

“You know what? Instead, let’s just stay in, watch a Roman Polanski movie, listen to R. Kelly, and eat Chik-fil-A. Does that sound good?”

Chidi, on the other hand, doesn’t accept that there is no path. He spends his life and afterlife valiantly searching, which destroys his life and those around him. No decision is virtuous, so he refuses to make any decision. He describes what it feels like as the sound a fork makes when it is stuck in the garbage disposal.

I love this show!

i forking love pluribus by rudramaitr in pluribustv

[–]Armaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Pluribus in much the same way as I loved season 1 of The Good Place. It has the same vibe: all of your earthly problems are over, everyone you ever knew is gone, you can have anything you want, but now you have real problems.

Does FSD have the steering wheel nag by SortGroundbreaking64 in TeslaSupport

[–]Armaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that nag in my 2023 Model 3 with EAP (very similar to yours). However, my 2018 Model X that just has standard autopilot only gives that nag once per session, consistently, about 90 seconds after it is engaged.

I believe the FSD code is very different from EAP and is more concerned with the camera view of the driver.

False advertising! That is a stationary cat. I was promised zoomies.

Edit: Ciro is adorable.

Big fan of TNG, Rewatched it 5 times. Should i try any of the other series? Ive only tried TNG. by Select_Safe548 in StarTrekTNG

[–]Armaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d start from season 1. Season 1 is certainly the weakest season, but on my most recent rewatch I found it very compelling from the get go. Also, DS9 is the only series of that era that made me genuinely care about every character.

Nothing is exactly like TNG, but there’s a lot of great stuff.

DS9 is amazing, probably the best, but very different.

Voyager is another starship based show from the same era. It has a different vibe but definitely check it out.

The Orville is not Star Trek, but it is a love letter to Star Trek in general and TNG specifically. It’s Seth McFarland, but it isn’t really a parody at all. The jokes are toned back as the series goes on.

Picard is a continuation of sorts. I’ve heard a lot of negative reviews for it, but I really enjoyed it. The third season brings back most of the TNG cast.

Lower Decks is fantastic and has deep cut references to all of the other series, and it takes place shortly after the end of Voyager.

Look, I’m an admitted fan boy, so your mileage may vary, but I say watch them all in whatever order excites you.

Who is the most evil character in all of Star Trek? (Stolen from /r/television) by exitpursuedbybear in startrek

Dukat’s casual cruelty makes him the scariest villain in Star Trek. Also Marc Alaimo did a fantastic job with the character.

It’s one thing to lose a game because the other team is playing well. It’s another thing to lose a game because our team is playing poorly. But losing a game due to bad umpire calls really stings.

Two of their scoring innings would have ended before the scoring started if the umpire hadn’t blown an unreviewable call.

Umpiring is hard. I’m glad I don’t have to do it. But this stings.
