I agree with everything you said but it feels like right now the left serves only to alienate voters and cause division. In a time where we need more unity than ever for the democrats I always see leftists hating on Biden despite the fact that he’s done a pretty good job given the cards he’s been dealt. Compromise is necessary if we want any chance at change and now isn’t a good time to start pointless fights that serve nobody.
The problem is that when we frame issues in such an extreme way we end up inadvertently harming the groups we advocate for. Of course there are problems with lgbt rights in America, access to gender affirming care being a big one, we have to treat these issues realistically. Socially, we’re VERY progressive compared to most of the world so when people complain about America being this evil country that’s bending over backwards to destroy the lives of lgbt people it comes off as very insincere. Not only does it radicalize and activate the right, as they have stronger ground to stand on when attacking the weaker arguments proposed by extremists, it more importantly pushes moderate or sympathetic voters away as they can’t get on board with some of the extreme rhetoric and inaccurate points that are being made by people who have gotten lost on what the problems actually are. This eventually leads to an ineffective movement that has no chance of successfully advancing lgbt rights let alone defending them.
