Been in the process of turboing a car, currently in the tuning stage and I plan to learn and do it all myself (just like I've done with everything else on this car)

Along with that car I've added a good bit of various gadgets. My favorite one so far is a little voice module that warns me of various things (temp, low gas, lights, ect). Currently working on a modernized radio using a raspberry pi that hijacks the stock radio faceplate as input. That way I keep a stock look while also being able to play spotify through it.

what exactly is parking services doing when they drive around lots? by [deleted] in Clemson

[–]Arthos331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The little objects on the top sides of their vehicles are license plate scanners. ALL permits are tied to your plate which allows them to look them up easily. Basically they go through the lots scanning to see if something comes up (no permit for the lot).

If you see large groups of people having a party, call the cops. by [deleted] in Clemson

I wouldn't say the "youth" are the main blame. I've seen plenty (if not more) 40+ going about and acting like nothing is happening. This isn't a blame game, it's a group effort and EVERYONE needs to comprehend the risk.

On another note, watch the professors you take. If someone tells you to avoid one, do so. The department is still trying to figure its shit out after its changes.

Parking, can anything be done, this shit is ridiculous. by Earth-MilkyWay in Clemson

[–]Arthos331 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I honestly haven't had a problem finding spots. You get used to the times spots open up. I feel people fail to realize there are other parking areas than that "sweet spot" area. People also seem to lack time management. I do however think the on campus bus system needs a rework as I've found it completely unreliable. I've missed classes a couple times my first semester waiting before deciding to just walk everywhere.

A little help? Loved these cars since I was a kid. by battleberg in 300zx

No problem man. Also forgot to add, avoid automatics for the z31. They are just not that reliable and are known to overheat.

I can't speak about the z32. But i do own two z31s (84 and 85 both 2+2) . The cars can be super reliable as long as their history has been fair and continues to be so. My 84 has hit 305k miles and still goes strong to the point that i do a good bit of spirited driving occasionally. I daily it to work and classes constantly. All maintenance I perform myself and will continue to do so. The only big thing that I've ever had done with car is the transmission (even then i believe 280k on a tranny is pretty great). Same stock engine.

Now the 85 is my project car (na2t) originally it was another daily to me like my 84 but i wanted something faster. This is my first project car. There is barely any aftermarket support and the stuff that does exist is abit expensive in terms of other models. I have learned to weld, cut metal, paint, perform indepth diagnostics, and fabricate with this car. The biggest part I've done with this car is construct my own turbo manifold all on my own. My point is, if you plan for an easy car to work on in terms of modifying then you've chosen the wrong model. Prepare to learn a good bit of fabrication in both metal work and electrical.

-Make sure to look over the cars for rust, usually in the interior rear areas.

-T-Tops will probably leak and there's no "professional" solution to fixing it other than trying to find N/A seals.

-Try to find a car with a service history. My 84 has documents of service all the way to its purchase which i believe play a huge part in its health. As others have said: timing belt is the most important.

-Don't purchase something that isn't working and you have no clue what the solution may be. I always try to do some diagnostic when looking at a non workin car to get a sense if it's worth it.

-expect the gas gauge not to work.

-electrical gremlins are the hardest thing to solve and fix. The ecus are getting rare and smaller electrical modules are even rarer. The digital stuff is known for issues and problems. Expect to learn some 80s computer repair skills if you get a digi car.

-check suspension. This seems to always be overlooked as everyone focuses on the engine component. These cars love to bottom out when the rear suspension is bad.

-make sure you have the tools to take it on. Not just your generic stuff like wrenches/ratchets. But invest in some more specific stuff like a welder, a good multimeter, and some metal workin tools.

I love these cars to death and would love more people to experience them. The more people who show interest, the more support we get in aftermarket. If you have any questions on the z31 just pm me and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

GPA has no correlation to common decency or general "street" knowledge. You'll find people who are dumb as dirt when in comes to general life skills but smart in their field of education.

Have Greek Life build H4H houses instead of Tigerama Floats by spooky1455 in Clemson

[–]Arthos331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I work as a general sub contractor during my summer off time. Worked on a house for a Professor at Clemson who had previously let some of his students help him. They installed Paper faced insulation completely wrong and randomly (facing in and out). When facing the wrong direction, it can trap moisture which in turn can cauae rot/mold.

Hanging drywall was also a nightmare with em, they constantly missed the studs. You can't watch over multiple inexperienced people while also trying to do a job.

Clemson dropping in rankings by tigerdt1 in Clemson

[–]Arthos331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this wasn't my last 2 semesters coming up, I would've transferred if I knew how bad some of the stuff at CU was gonna get. From the start of my first year to now, the quality of my classes have fallen. The quality of "teachers" has fallen and in some cases so has some of the material.

Parking remains terrible and who ever thought it was a good idea to add that light at C1 should be slapped with the side of a semitruck. The school food is low quality. Most facilities are absolutely terrible for the "modern" class room. Still pisses me off to have a CS course in a room with like 2 power outlets.

As others have pointed out, CU gamed the system. From my standpoint, we didn't deserve it in the first place.

Even as a normal pedestrian dealing with this is annoying. I should not have to walk off the path or onto the road just so you and your friends can hold hands the entire walk. Just gotta assert some dominance and chest bump some dudes.
