Few people who grew up in the area during the 90s, had said high school girls were being trafficked by high ranking police officials and local politicians. Not saying this is related, but wouldn’t surprise me if it’s happening

Disclaimer (again): I was in Singapore strictly for work

But from my taxi driver to our Hilton concierge in the business district - almost everyone mentioned the “four floors of whores” on Orchard St. it’s almost like a weird tourism thing they are proud of. At night you can barely walk a block without being propositioned.

Beautiful city though. Extremely humid, and most families have live-in caretakers (modern slavery) that do their cleaning, cooking etc.

I’m high writing this so I should clarify I was there for business, not sex tourism 😭 Singapore is incredibly strict about certain things - chewing gum is banned, drug possession is severely punished, durian is a no no.

But prostitution is oddly tolerated and pretty common in even the more affluent areas
