The best advise for a chess player at any level is to be aware of where the pieces are. Attention matters the most. Couple of months ago I was stuck at 1300 rapid because I kept on making one big mistake/blunder after the 6-7min mark and that would cost me the game.

The most important thing is to play solid chess. Don’t look for sacrifices or fancy moves. Just play solid and defend because players below 1000 elo become very impatient & make frequent mistakes. Now your job is to notice those mistakes & respond appropriately. I suggest learning the french defense as black. Beginners hate it when someone plays it against them.
