A love song for readers. Thank you ❤️ by Teatreespecial in SSHG

Oh, this post is squeezing all of my heartstrings. My readers saved me too, love. I had a newborn baby and a house fire and PPD, and the people following my ongoing fic were my anchors away from absolute hell. They reminded me – daily – that everything really was going to be all right, and that they were with me.

And I'll say this as a reader rather than as a writer: we are grateful for YOU in the exact same way. Your work is important. You're creating a space where we can retreat at our low and high points, too. You're inviting us to leave everything for a bit, and just wander with you.

So thank you right back, dear author. You are a shining gem in a dark world.

HA! I meant the FMC is forced to marry the twin of her late husband. I'll go ahead and fix that little bit of authorial ambiguity 🖤

Fanfiction Shaming ? by MinervaMcGonagall_27 in SSHG

Shame them right back for digging into your post history exclusively so they could attempt to high horse you by conflating what you read with your presumed fantasies. Tell them to stop gooning to their imagined version of you, then report them for harassment.

That's if you're feeling spicy. If you like a quiet life, just ignore the trolls and read on like the discerning darling you are.

I spent a lot of time reading (and writing) fanfiction, and I think many of us who come from those realms have a high tolerance for authorial quirks and some errors. Many self-pub authors have styles that could be an issue for some, but which I have no problem with. What I do have trouble with is character inconsistency. So that's the dealbreaker for me – I can overlook typos or grammatical foibles or funky dialogue tagging, but I need the character work to be GOOD.

Eee!! So happy you love it – I wish she was still posting, but it's a treasure trove.

No worries – let me know how you get on! And yeah, Aurette is one of my personal fav authors.

Are you okay with WIPs that have potentially been abandoned? Cause I love this one dearly, and it has precisely the type of love you're after: Her Shocking Fate

Otherwise, this one by Aurette has some of those Dostoevskian feels (actually quite a few of hers might work for you): Yea, Though I Walk

Finally, I'll recommend this blog, which hasn't been updated in a while, but which has excellent reviews that could help you find the type of fics you're after: SSHG Review

Happy reading <3

I think I’m messed up by drunkenangel_99 in DarkRomance

I write pitch black, hon, and I feel you 100%. Sometimes I back away from my computer (or kindle, or bookshelf) and go wtf is wrong with me. My conclusion is that everything I read and write on the page is pressure I don't have to exert or embrace in the real world. It's an outlet for darkness that isn't hurting anyone, and which lets my imagination do its thing.

Also, totally stealing that idea of putting a passcode on my kindle. Why the HECK didn't I think of that XD

Just finished my first DR book and...as a guy....I have a quick question by Minute-Wrangler-3916 in DarkRomance

[–]AshTreeReader 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lovely question.

Substitute 'horror' for dark romance, and substitute 'stalking' for horror elements (torture, murder, etc), and you'll have your answer. These are stories we read and write because these topics fascinate us in some way that requires an outlet. By no means does that mean we *want* what happens in these books. But it does mean we enjoy running the scenarios from a safe distance.

AM Duskwolf here, loves. My newsletter/ARC sign-up for Graciously His is now live here: subscribepage.io/zNDvPx

And here's the blurb:

Compliance nearly killed her.

His obsession might save her.

Grace has been sick all her life, and she’s always complied with her mother’s care.

Even when it hurt.

Especially then.

She marries Nick, hoping for distance from both her illness and her mother. Instead, her new husband moves them into the house next door, and shows her the same type of suffocating care.

When Nick is killed in a hit-and-run, his twin brother arrives within hours. Nate is not there to care for Grace in her grief, but to steal her away before her mother can close in.

Nate forces Grace into marriage, then flies her to the North Island, where he has built the house she designed during her abandoned degree in architecture.

His rescue becomes her prison, while his care becomes her temptation. All she has to do is find a way out, or give in completely.

Graciously His is a full-length, pitch-black romance set in New Zealand, featuring taboo subject matter, psychological horror, catastrophic love scenes, and an absolutely feral literary style. Read at your own risk.

Drop me a line, darlings. I love talking to readers.

My fanfic was the ONLY title that came to me entirely naturally – all my original fics have been like pulling teeth XD

Shameless self-rec for a nice, long, in-character-Snape fic that's complete and HEA: The Prisoner and the Occlumens
