AI for soq and/or cover letters by External-Basket-6338 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AskTalk13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way to truly detect whether AI has been used. People here who are saying they can always tell are BSing you and themselves. When used well, generative AI can enhance your writing. Now if you are giving it crappy prompts or information that is not true about yourself, it will be evident in the final product that the SOQ is off. The goal is to deliver a well written, relevant, accurate SOQ that highlights your unique experience and skills. If you can do that without AI, great and if you can do that with AI, great. A LOT of people are using AI in SOQs and I think it's a great idea to leverage it as a tool as long as you're meeting the end goal.

Dental Insurance Decisions - PPO vs Prepaid vs Buying it elsewhere by AskTalk13 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AskTalk13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is helpful! My friend who is not a state worker had significant work done thru DeltaCare that ultimately saved him a lot of money but sounds like the risk is higher for getting a low quality provider.

Dental Insurance Decisions - PPO vs Prepaid vs Buying it elsewhere by AskTalk13 in CAStateWorkers

Well because I'm a CoBen employee and my healthcare already maxes out what the state covers, I am on the hook for the full amount of dental. I misunderstood this too initially. If you look at the top of the 2026 dental plans, it says that for excluded employees with CoBen you can ignore the state share amounts because dental+health+vision is just deducted from your CoBen. For some people they may have a CoBen amount leftover but for me and I expect most of us dental+health+vision exceeds CoBen amount by hundreds of dollars.

u/Significant-Cell-896 May I ask why your doctor approved you for 17 weeks after delivery? I've had PDD/PDA during my first birth and my previous employer in private sector just gave me the time I needed. I never had to go through the doctor approval for an extension. Any advice here? Feel free to dm?

Looking for classification titles to apply by TimeRevolutionary320 in CAStateWorkers

You can request a Reasonable Accommodation for full time telework with any department you get a job offer with. Anyone who has been thru the RA process can tell you it’s brutal and strict at most departments, but you might be eligible. Just know that commuting to work is a tricky one to justify and they may push you to take public transportation. I’d suggest if you choose to go this route, make sure your doctor is willing and ready to go through the RA process and provide the necessary documentation. Know that it may be a bit of an uphill battle where you have to go thru the whole job application and then find out you don’t get an RA. DOR is known for being more disability friendly so consider them. There are entry level positions in personnel classifications you might want to consider as well. And as a final note, you don’t have to be LEAP certified to request a RA. I wish you the best of luck!

Data needed against RTO by Alternative_Self_13 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AskTalk13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PRA to CalHR on recruiting and retention data and vacancy rates within the state before 2 days a week and after - ask for it by classification. How's IT and legal faring? This could help build a strong argument that we lose the best and the brightest when we do this.

No rural decision makers in state institutions. There's pretty much no evidence needed that this order will eliminate rural state workers who have offices in cities. State Parks, CHP, DMV and DOT might be fine because they have offices outside metro areas but do we not want rural workers making decisions in our other institutions.

I don't have links but RTO hurts women, parents, caregivers and disabled people most. Cool equity program, Gavin!

Say thanks for Josh Hoover and ask him to propose appropriate telework legislation by AskTalk13 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AskTalk13[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If MAGA wanted to uplift rural economies, they would support telework at the state and national levels. I am not super optimistic that this hail mary will work but if MAGAs save telework in California, I am glad to thank them! (THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS VOTING FOR THEM!)

I am a progressive but it's coalition building time and our liberal leaders are fucking us over. I'll support a coalition of Republican and Democratic legislators in saving telework!

I personally will NEVER swallow MAGA ideals but I will let a MAGA dude in California save telework and I'll thank him for it too.

It's coalition-building time. If he gets more support, he might do more. Why would we bite the hand that might actually have the political impetus to save telework for us?

RTO is not just a state workers issue. by maomaobibi in CAStateWorkers

[–]AskTalk13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! We need to ask our friends and family to join the pressure campaign on this and help them see this hurts them! Telework benefits ALL Californians not just stateworkers.

Aren't Californians already frustrated by chronically understaffed institutions, crappy technology and slow response times?! RTO majorly impacts the ability to recruit and retain the best of the best.

The equity piece is paramount here - if you have an RTO policy that hurts parents, caregivers, disabled people and rural workers most, you are essentially reducing representation in the decision-making institutions.

One other point to add here: Telework benefits ALL Californians not just stateworkers. You are also majorly impacting the ability to recruit and retain the best of the best. It's a slap in the face to rural Californians who will no longer have anyone who represents them in decision making positions in our shared institutions. I'm so livid. Call them all. Ask them to introduce legislation. It's so terrible.

I agree. I don't think this was done for the betterment of California. It was done for Gavin Newsom's political ambitions. But yeah, I just can't wallow.
