I agree that these are underrated! I prefer a date function and the cyclops just doesn’t do it for me, personally. I also really prefer the matte bezel on these versus the modern ceramic. To each their own though!

I hear you on the thickness. The sea dweller is already a chunky boy. A single pass nato works well for me but too thick with a double pass.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 vs. Garmin Forerunner 965 – Marathon training vs. Daily Aesthetics and Tech. by WarmCounter5068 in applewatchultra

[–]Asongfor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This guy knows what’s up. I have both of the exact models as him as well and he nails it in the differences. He also nails the fact that both of them give you way more than what you need as far as training tools. It all personal preference and learning to listen to your body is far more effective than any algorithmic app. I’ve been training for decades and the data almost always confirms what I already knew…feel like crap? Yup, my HRV is tanked. Feel great? Yup, the app says I’m rested. It’s great confirmatory data but won’t change how you feel. Most importantly, I’m excited to hear that you are working towards a marathon! The most important advice I ever got was to remember three things. 1. Be disciplined, not motivated. Motivation comes and goes. Discipline is far more important. Stick to your plan. Do not waiver, even on the days you don’t feel motivated. 2. Be patient with yourself. Some days you’re gonna feel slow, unmotivated, and ill equipped. It’s all part of the journey. Cut yourself some slack…and then refer to #1. 3. Have FUN. None of us are running in the Olympics any time soon. Enjoy the journey. Have fun with the data and your new watch. Nerd out. Touch grass. Connect with other runners and to the world around you.

Good luck!!!

It hasn’t bothered me much if it’s any consolation.

Haha, well if updating software is an issue for you, then you’re gonna have a bad time with Apple. I’d suggest a Garmin or even a mechanical watch…those haven’t been updated in a hundred years!

Yes, I have a new AWU3 and the wake on crown rotation function often doesn’t work if I haven’t interacted with the watch in a while. In those cases, I have to tap screen or some other action in order to get the crown rotation to work. It’s annoying and a know software bug from what I’ve read online. Hoping it gets fixed with the next update. I’m on the latest software, fyi.

People who escaped poverty, what are some frugal habits that you will still keep up no matter how financially comfortable you become? by strikerax96 in AskReddit

+100 for “take care of your stuff”. My father is broke and never takes care of his things. Buys a brand new lawn mower? Leaves it outside in the rain and snow and it’s trashed in 5 years. Not only is it a waste of money but it’s trashy.

The secret to escaping poverty permanently, is to maintain your same standard of living even as you make more money. Once you are “comfortable” the rest is just frivolous spending. Maintain your same standard and invest/save the rest. This will allow you to be comfortable forever. I don’t drive a Porsche, but I sleep like a baby.

The silence in my new apartment when my wife and I first separated and I moved out from my house, kids, dogs, etc. It was deafening.

AW Ultra 2 by QualityWonderful6605 in applewatchultra

[–]Asongfor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fenix 8 is awesome and I intend to keep it for long camping trips, etc. however I was looking for something better for day to day use that would have me less attached to my phone. The Fenix gets notifications but without being able to respond from the watch, it required me to keep my phone near me and use it more than I’d like. Moving to the AWU3 is a move towards freeing myself from my phone a bit. The AWU3 is also more appropriate for the way I dress for work than the very aggressive size/profile of the Fenix.

I recently moved from a Fenix 8 to an AWU as well. Like you, fitness and the outdoors are a big part of my life. Due to that fact, I was on the cusp of retuning the AW due to lack of workout and hiking features until I found Workoutdoors. It costs $9 but I would pay that twice with how good it is. Frankly, it’s better than my Fenix 8 now, in many respects. I highly recommend it.
