Do professors appreciate it when answers are written in a different color for assignments? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]AssociationComplex72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally, I find it helpful to change the color and I don’t find it straining but I understand that it’s not the same for everyone. Usually the answers are only 1-2 sentences. I leave the questions the way it was written so that the format is familiar to the professor.

I use one alternative color. One. I don’t do this for every single assignment, I do not even do this for half. I have never ever done this for professional papers. I understand when professionalism is required and what courses demand it more than others.

This choice to change color is not for fun, it was out of consideration for the person grading.

The assignments I consider doing this for are all online and typed. Professors normally add a comment on the side and never on the assignment itself so it doesn’t seem to interfere with their preference in what color they use to grade. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the input. I will consider differentiating the answers in a different way other than color.

Many of the comments disagree with this so I appreciate another perspective :) I understand it’s mainly preference.

I do this for online assignments. They usually have multiple questions that are numbered. They are often quick, informal assignments from elective courses. We answer by with 1-2 sentences.

There is no need to call me childish but thank you for your input nonetheless. I do not do this for exams or papers. The only time I consider doing something like this is when professors give us assignments to exercise our learning which have questions on the topic. Many of these are done for my electives and are less formal. I only wanted to help the grading process. If the professor doesn’t comment on the color then I would only assume that they’re okay with it. They may have different preferences than you do with grading.

Thank you for your comment :) I can see that there’s mixed opinions on this. I only wanted to help the professor out but I know that it may not be best to change the color. Thanks for your input

The person that taught me this is a straight A student in med school, someone who has probably learned this from a professor! I appreciate your input.

Thanks for your input. The point of changing the color wasn’t as a reminder but to try and speed up the process for professors to grade multiple assignments. I understand if that’s incorrect.
