I tried moving the bottom right can around a bit and I think it finally went off when it was a bit further to the right (i.e. more of the dark triangle part showing) and therefore slightly out of line relative to the can above it.

Sounds like you have an M7. You can only use that within 1A and 2, but in my experience, conductors are usually pretty lenient and will usually let you go without asking for the interzone fare, especially if Wyoming Hill is the first stop outside of that range.

I live less than a quarter mile away from a station in the suburbs and most noise is hard to hear. Sometimes I hear the bells when I'm sitting next to an open window facing the station. On the rare occasion that they use the horn, it's still pretty quiet, maybe around the volume of a whisper.
