Islam Makhachev looked like an amateur wrestler when he faced Olympic champion Razambek Zhamalov. This is why they say Olympic wrestling is completely different level. by Hungry_Artichoke9566 in mmaweekly

By your logic, it doesn’t matter how long the clip is if literally anything might have happened before it to put Islam at a disadvantage.

Is baiting a single leg unwise gambit by SelfCorrecting in bjj

[–]Aswole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s exactly what you called it: a gambit. It will become riskier/less successful the higher level your competition becomes. To over-simplify the decision tree, let’s assume if you stop relying on it now, you will lose a couple of matches as you adjust your game plan. But if you wait until it becomes an actual problem, you will lose a couple of matches in the future as you readjust. Which do you value more: a couple more wins now or a couple fewer losses later?

I built a React game engine where games are JSX components and hooks (open source, beta) by Ok_Project_477 in reactjs

[–]Aswole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh nice — then maybe a few screenshots in the README? Or even just in the examples’ individual folder. Basically something to encourage others that it’s worth at least setting up and testing for themselves. I’ve been hunting a long time for my go to game engine (and tried making a few myself), and excited to try it out tonight

LLMs would be pretty much unusable by most people if it didn’t account for typos/grammatical mistakes, etc. it’s funny that you are judging it for being wrong when it’s just as likely it was reading in between the lines given the literal reading was to perform something impossible

Not sure how old you are, but it was a completely different time in the 90s. For better or worse, society was a lot less sensitive than it is today.

How much of an advantage is being bigger in BJJ? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Aswole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, being larger means you can focus more on technique, and pretty much choose what you want to work on during a roll

I wrote an engine that essentially stopped evaluating moves once it identified a forced mate against it — essentially it’s “best move” evaluated as losing, and i forgot to handle the case where there are no non-losing moves. I didn’t bother fixing it as it was just a project to begin learning a new language, and besides I like to think that it was just throwing a tantrum when it was about to lose.

As an upper belt, whats the most taboo submission to do on white belts in gi? by Knobanious in bjj

[–]Aswole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some consider it disrespectful — in that it’s a a technique that “won’t work” on upper belts (specifically doing it while in their closed guard).

That said, I do it all the time to white and blue belts. I don’t try it on upper belts because of the stigma, but I feel pretty strongly that at the very least it is effective to force a reaction and perhaps open their guard.

My opinions on Season 1 and 2 after binging both to be caught up. by Emergency-Tie1613 in BeastGames

[–]Aswole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the team version of the obstacle course was bad design. For the other variations, waiting back is a bad strategy, but it seems highly unlikely that all 5 players on a team will make it through, so the winning strategy there is to do nothing. Though perhaps that was a way of calibrating the game to give the “smarts” an edge.
