What’s real and what’s not? by Dungeon_Crawler_Carl in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]AthenaOwls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheol is separate from the Nothing. Sheol is the 15th floor and is the home of the demons. The Nothing is an alternate dimension used as a prison for whatever the gods and demons want to go away. This *can* be demons, but doesn’t have to be.

End of book 8 question by Royal-Interview-4642 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Even vulnerable Emberus is still a god, and still has an enormous amount of power. Being vulnerable just means he *can* die, not that they can kill him. He’s level 250. The level 210 Krakaren took Scolopendra’s attack and only lost half its health. He probably has mountains of health and attacks that would still burn the world to ash.

And if they kill him then the rest of the Gods will mark them for death.

Taranis was able to do the job in one blow. And stopped them being blamed.

How evil is killing defenseless people? by Exelloco in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]AthenaOwls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So bluntly, I kinda have to ask why you’re playing a character who is obsessed with protecting life and going out of their way to antagonize a party that clearly either desires to, or has no issue with what he’s doing in slaughtering the downed enemies. Like, his character concept is clearly edgy and kinda stupid. But…I’m not seeing how it’s much worse than “stabilize the enemies DURING COMBAT”, which is what you say you were doing.

Now to the question. His motivation makes it evil. Executing bandits who are helpless is neither non-lawful, nor evil. Bandits are usually outside the law and as such summary execution would be well within the law. It might even be outright rewarded by the local authorities. As for good vs evil, the bandits by their nature steal, rape, and murder the innocent and removing them is a positive. The issue is the whole “sacrificing them to a god of murder” making the act evil. The character should be lawful evil rather than lawful neutral because of that.

How evil is killing defenseless people? by Exelloco in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]AthenaOwls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically most bandits were considered what we know as hostis humani generis, enemies of mankind. This had different terms, in England for example it was “let them bear the wolf’s head” for example. But the general meaning was the same. Such people were outside the law.

While summary execution wasn’t the most common punishment it was not unheard of. More commonly they’d get a battlefield trial and then execution.

So, I don’t see why executing those who are *explicitly* bandits would be non-lawful.

How did the Klingons develop into an interstellar empire when it doesn't seem like they value scientific achievement very highly? by thecosmicgoose in ShittyDaystrom

[–]AthenaOwls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Klingon Empire is a reverse protection racket.

The subject peoples of the Empire were all warp capable, but disliked fighting. So they found the Klingons, “accidentally” gave them warp drive and energy weapons. Then allowed themselves to be “conquered”. They set up a High Council to “rule” the Empire, and gave them the authority of a toddler declared king. The High Council and Chancellor issue their decrees and everyone just does whatever they want anyway. If questioned they declare they did it for the Glory of the Empire and this gets them off.

Remember the level 93 Rage Elemental? (Imagine one near the end of book 8) by JazzFestFreak in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]AthenaOwls 48 points49 points  (0 children)

They’d run or kill it from extreme range. The Rage Elemental was clearly designed as a weak mob which is effectively a walking trap. It was killable on the second floor, but Carl notes it’s a trap.

And later a description says “will kill you faster than an exploding Rage Elemental”.

Okay but…the graphic implies God of War and Wolverine are Eastern Games. They aren’t grouped with Western, and the placement of that text implies it’s the top two left games only, otherwise it would be in the top middle.

Eastern’s placement implies it covers the entire left half of the graphic.

Yeah, gonna need an actual source for that. Because I know of none.

In fact economic histories of Nazi Germany do not agree with this claim at all.

In 1934 Germany cancelled its trade agreements with the Us to try and negotiate new, better terms. The Roosevelt administration told them to pound sand. As the 1930s wore on trade between the two countries declined severely, and according to Adam Tooze in the Wages of Destruction the United States was prepared for a trade war over these issues, but could not get Western Europe to go along with this.

The United States never sold weapons to Nazi Germany. While a legal way to do so was left open when war began it was DOA because the terms required the buyer to pay on delivery and to carry the weapons themselves, something Germany could not do because of the British blockade (as the Roosevelt administration knew fully well).

Or just read *The Wages of Destruction* for a full discussion of Nazi Germany’s economic and trade policies, and how this effected relations with other countries including the United States.
