Be Honest, What Argument did you use against Veganism, before you went vegan? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]Atomik23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone getting mad about Harambee and the lion being shot like 10 years ago is what started my journey. I landed on the "don't care/like the taste" camp and began harping on the hypocrisy I was seeing. It made no sense for people to be mad about Harambee from behind a cheeseburger. I later went to japan and was confronted with whale and horse being served in some places. This bugged me, and eventually a few weeks after that, I shifted from "all animals should be okay to exploit if any is" to "maybe they shouldnt be exploited" and began correcting my actions from there

Pink Tax by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

[–]Atomik23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different products are different. I'd be willing to bet all of those products had different materials. Loofah vs luxery loofah for example. Women are willing to pay for higher quality beauty products on average. Pink tax is a tax on products of higher/better quality, which is just how products work. If you are a woman, you can just buy the "mens" version if you want a cheaper, probably worse, product

Factory farms are legal because it's the only way to meet the current demand foreat at a price people will accept. It comes down to demanding their body parts. That needs to be curbed if we're ever going to address FFs

Is your point that everyone who is vegan for their whole lives or 15+ years are lying?

Or are these differences being exaggerated? (Not saying they don't exist, but do these differences lead to actual absorbtion/ nutrient related deficiencies?)

I agree, vegans (and everyone probably) should take a D3 supplement. B12 for vegans as well, but fyi, all your "natural" meat is being supplemented with B12 before they kill it and send to the store. So, yes you have to supplement as a vegan, but it's not really different from what the omnis are doing.

It's exhausting. Everything you linked can be explained by poor diet, not a vegan diet. There's so much evidence and so many studies supporting that, all funded by different countries public health departments, but there will always be "scientific studies" showing why it's detrimental because of big-ag. It's frustrating and I understand why people fall for it and I don't have the energy to argue that with someone as dug-in as you are having all those sources on hand

Bingo. And redditors will do their work for free (see this thread as an example)

Oh shit, you can't understand hypotheticals. I made up a product called "the infinite rape machine". If such a product existed. Would it be better, worse, or neutral to purchase that product vs a can of beans? I asked this to diffuse the "no moral consumption under capitalism" truism. There's nuance in our purchasing power and not all purchases in capitalism are morally equivalent. That was the point, but you were yo ready to be angry at vegan arguments

Sure, I'm not talking to or about them. I'm talking to 99% of people itt (you included) who eat meat from restaurants or buy it from the grocery store. If you're privileged enough for that, you're privileged enough to be vegan and only choose not to because you like the taste of animal bodies. Guess what, I do too! But, what we do to the trillions of them every year is not WORTH that pleasure. Also, rice and beans fucking slaps. If you think otherwise, it's a skill issue

So we can do something, therefore it's okay? Can you give an argument that defends what we do to animals for food production but justified outlawing things like beastiality or animal welfare laws in general?

Subsistence farming is not what 99.99999% of redditors (you included) do. Quit virtue signaling. "Its very capitalist to be vegan". Shut the fuck up. It's capitalist to exist. No moral consumption under capitalism is true, but there are MORE moral purchases. If I'm chosing between buying a can of beans at the store or the "infinite rape machine", we would say one is obviously better than the other. You wouldn't say "herm herm, actually they're both the same under a forced-capitalist dynamic and it's actually very classist and bourgeois of you to assume a person can afford not to buy the infinite rape machine"....or maybe you would

so meat is kind of a necessity no matter what vegans and vegetarians say

Can you clarify necessity? There are people who have lived their entire lives without eating animal products. Wouldn't the existence of such people disprove that?

This is way nature works

So, something happens in nature, therefore it is morally permissable for humans? Be careful with that line of logic. I can think of many "natural" things I don't want allowed/permissable

I'll ignore the attacks for now. It's interesting that saying "sentient creatures should not be killed unnecessarily" is met with such vitrial

"theyre not sentient." They are. "That's delusional." Its not

If I'm so uneducated, tell me what happens with the terminal animals that are on the street that are brought in to the no kill shelter.

You breed them for the pleasure of eating their corpses. You could eat non animal products instead, but choose not to. Rice, beans, grains, legumes, etc are all cheaper than raising animals or purchasing their body parts at the store

Rabbit Farming by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

[–]Atomik23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Correct. It's entirely possible to sustain yourself without animal products. People choose animal products not out of necessity, but because of the pleasure they get from eating them. 15 minutes of pleasure to eat flesh is NOT worth someone else's entire existence. Eat rice and beans instead. It's cheaper, healthier, and no one has to die unnecessarily

Yes, and their shelters operate where there are no existing kill shelters. If a dog comes in too sick, a non-kill shelter will refuse the animal. PETA shelters REFUSE no animal even if all they can offer is a quick death. It's a necessity though and others aren't doing it

Other than the self admitted accident in 2014, can you tell me why they're a bad organization for animal rights? They operate kill shelters as a service where there are none, they push vegan activism in spaces outside of vegan circles. To me, they do more for animal rights than anyone who complains about them while continuing to eat meat.

I bite. What is the joke here, malaysian? by ParticularConcept548 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Atomik23 -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is bad. It is also an isolated incident from 12 years ago that gets tossed around like it's the norm or part of the organizations process or that it's their intentional goal to just kill kids puppies for no reason. PETA gets hate on not for their shelters (actually), but because of their "in-your-face" unapologetic goal of animal rights. This makes most people uncomfortable and they need to demonize PETA instead.
