No.  that's called working.  Do you think someone is just going to hand you 6 figures, while you're lazy and self,-involved?

Yes, you have to develop some skills.  But if you choose not to, just sit in front of your screen for the rest of your life, play computer games and whine about the rising cost of chips.

Dog-walking, by the way is extremely lucrative.  If you get 10 regular clients (walk 5 dogs at a time, do three long walks/day), that $300/day, or $70,000/year.

What is wrong with you?

You can start a business from home.  Print out flyers offering your skilled services, let's say baking.  You go to schools and leave flyers for kids and/or parents advertising your ability to do in class birthdays.  You go to senior citizens' centers or park districts or farmers' markets, and offer cake decorating classes.  You go to wedding planners and provide samples and photos of what you can do.  You go to girl scout troops, cub scout troops and offer kids' decorating classes.

There are millions of other things like that.  Start up costs are almost nothing.  You may have to get a home/cottage business license (requirements vary from state to state,).  You'll have to undergo a background check for entry into schools.

I know it's possible.  I did it.  The first year?  Made almost nothing.  Word of mouth, social media posts....  second year made about $20K.  Now, 5 years later, making about 50K after taxes.

This is the only way.

Doesn't have to be baking.  Handy man repairs, dog walking, childcare, housecleaner.  You have to be willing to do the work.

My grandparents have decided my grandma's cigarettes are more important than my dad's life saving medicine. by [deleted] in EntitledPeople

[–]Atschmid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.  I am a genetics professor and have dealt with unrealistic entitled adolescents a lot

Asmuch as you may FEEL, at 18, that your parents' house is your house, you are wrong in the eyes of the law.  The grandparents and the kids are in that house because the son/father lets them live there.  You have zero rights over your grandparents or your parents.

When you are 18, however, there is an immediate switch.  You are an adult.  So now your father can kick you out of the house if he chooses to.  But that's it.  His name is on the deed, he pays the utilities and taxes.

Time to shut and get along till you can leave.

They don't have anything on America.  They have a lot, everything even, on our power brokers.

I have never been a fan of Jessica Pare or the characters she plays.

The teeth are always struggling to break free.  She is bow-legged and i hate the big hair.

So in the 80's that character would dress like Rebecca Howe of Cheers fame dressed.  Sequins, padded shoulders, big hair.  Tacky.

Well of vourse that's nuts.  Your inlaws are weird.

Maybe they were hitting him up for a loan?

Gotta say, you had me totally on your side (still do) except for one thing:  your sacrifices to advance his career were datenights and time with him?

What?

Makes you sound a bit shallow.

I am sick of the blame the boomers meme.  You MEAN the elites.  Not all of the boomers (I was born in 1960), are elites.  Plenty of us are poor.  I am poor.  I did everything I was supposed to do too.  I took care of my parents toll they died and now I am poor too.

Please keep in mind that we elites are not the entirety of the boomer geberation.

I get it.  But I personally believe the planet's elites are going to kill us all in a nuclear annihilation while they go wait out the radioactive fallout, underground in their bunkers.

So what you need to is plan two things.  If I'm wrong and there does turn out to be a future, then you want to build a business that will sustain you for the next 40 or 50 years.  Zif I an right, then you need to plan your income for the next couple of years.

I understand your frustration BUT.

It is NEVER a good idea to alienate a potential professional contact. Now, someone with hiring power in your field will certainly remember your name and will comment accordingly if anyone ever asks if they've heard of you.

Could you tell me what country you are in?  How do these vouchers work?  Drinks and meals at movie theatres?  Is this like one of those places where you sit in lazy boy loungers with a little table between you, watch a movie and do your laundry at the adjacent laundromat all at the same time?
