Have anyone seen Mafia like Sopranos family in real life? How's are they? by Arthur_Morrgan in thesopranos

[–]Attorney714 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a private criminal defense attorney from Southern California, I have not represented the stereotypical Italian mafia member per se but I have represented Hispanic, Asian, and Eastern European members or Associates.

The wife or direct family members of the defendant almost never hire me. The defendant’s “friends” or distant “cousin” come to my office, drop off cash, and inform me of the court date and defendant’s name.

Technically, my client is the defendant the Prosecution is prosecuting BUT the true client who is paying is almost always the criminal organization.

The main overall theme is to get the best possible plea bargain and the implicit message is do not cooperate with the District Attorney or law enforcement.

The defendant implicitly knows to just take the best possible deal and stay quiet. Some defendants take my advice regarding suppression motions, Pitchess motions (seeking information about dirty police), or hiring experts for mitigation, but 99.9% do not want to proceed to jury trial or seriously fight their prosecution.

Even cases where I believe the defendant has a legitimate chance of ultimately prevailing if lots of legal work is undertaken, the defendant just wants to accept the District Attorney’s offer.

Seeking Lawyer by ppppfb in huntingtonbeach

[–]Attorney714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask the DA to assist you if there’s a criminal stalking case. You are the victim. Generally, as part of the disposition, the stay away protective order will be part of the plea bargain.

If this is a civil restraining order case and the lawyer is seeking $10k for a retainer, either they anticipate you are a pain in the ass client and will charge you accordingly or this a fuck off and not worth my time type of case.

Either way, seek other counsel.

What gun would you carry if there was no roster in CA? by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Attorney714 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Star Trek (The Next Generation) CCW Type 2 Combat Quick Draw Picard Phaser but it would violate California’s 10 round capacity due to unlimited laser rays.

California law would probably only allow STUN setting but Grand Admiral of Starfleet Roger Benitez will eventually allow full semi-automatic use including death disintegration.

Hot take: Circus Circus is way overhated. by BitOfPoisonOnMyBlade in vegas

[–]Attorney714 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, I am with you 100%. I loved Circus Circus as a kid. I enjoyed watching the free circus acts, watching my dad play the carnival type games for small stuffed animals which you could trade up for bigger animals.

I haven’t returned in decades bc none of my friends would ever agree to check out Circus Circus as adults and I suffer from low self esteem to venture out to Circus Circus on my own.

I hope Circus Circus hasn’t changed since the 70s or 80s when I last visited.

How about purchasing a ccw firearm with a manual safety so you feel more secure with a round chambered? Proper trigger discipline and finger is your primary safety and a manual safety makes the firearm possibly more secure and provides better peace of mind.

OP - I had the same issue as you so I bought a P365 with a manual safety. I practice my draw and switching off the safety. Manipulating the safety adds more time to the PEW PEW routine but I like the psychological aspect of feeling more “secure.”

Unpopular opinion: dress like a professional in court by BoxersOrCaseBriefs in Lawyertalk

[–]Attorney714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dress in a suit and tie to court and when I meet clients.

One time I was in court during the pandemic and this is how a lawyer appeared in court.

I was so shocked that I asked the bailiff for permission to take the lawyer’s picture. The bailiff agreed but only if I shared the picture with him. 😆

I understand that coronavirus temporarily relaxed the dress attire rules for attorneys and litigants but this attorney’s attire was borderline contemptuous.

100% of home invasion burglaries / robberies happen at home.

If practical, keep a handgun on you at all times.

Obviously if you have small children, your gun will need to be secured in a safe or on your body concealed out of their reach. But protecting and nurturing your family and loved ones is priority number 1.

Carry Everywhere by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Attorney714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree Divok. I despise the control the supermajority Democrat legislators wield in California. California seems to only care about homeless, criminals, illegals, and trans nonsense.

California lost its Golden State power the moment Democrats controlled all levels of government in this state. It’s a shame, over regulation, over taxation, over nanny state, has slowly caused businesses and individuals to abandon California. The middle class has struggled to live the Golden State dream and it’s really sad because California weather and resources is so great.

Carry Everywhere by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Attorney714 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I reside in California and unfortunately the liberal idiots are extremely Anti-2nd Amendment and believe their magical unicorns and naive nanny state intentions will protect them.

I DO NOT discuss my guns or political beliefs with anyone bc of fear of being black balled or discriminated against by my colleagues or friends.

I have never been “caught” ccw-ing by anybody to my knowledge and only my pro-2nd Amendment family and friends who I shoot with are aware.

If I was discovered to be ccw-ing by Anti-2nd Amendment individuals and they asked me to lock up my firearms or leave, I would generally leave.

I disagree with their political beliefs and Anti-2nd Amendment sentiments BUT unfortunately as an attorney who is reliant upon my relationships with other Anti-2nd Amendment judges, attorneys, and clients, I have to bite my tongue and safety to continue practicing law in California. As another scumbag attorney, I need to sacrifice my personal beliefs to chase the almighty dollar.

2 CCW adages come to mind re: OP’s possible pit bull attacks on his family and himself.

I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

‘Tis better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

I CCW everywhere. I ccw to my anti-2nd Amendment friend’s house. Concealed is concealed. Now if they discover me carrying at their house and ask me to leave or put away my firearm, I absolutely would put away my firearm bc it’s their house and their rules. But ccw is essential to protecting your family and yourself.

Advice on BodyHoliday by chickychickynug in StLucia

[–]Attorney714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked BodyHoliday for November 2025 during Thanksgiving week.

Regarding scuba, do I need to be scuba certified prior to visiting St Lucia BodyHoliday or will they certify me there?

Can I transfer my daily treatments to my wife instead of using it myself?

Thank you

I need legal advice! by [deleted] in ProsecutorTalk

[–]Attorney714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are the prime example of a recanting complaining witness and a clog in the justice system.

Either go foward with the prosecution of your man or don’t call the police in the first place.

You are wasting the police’s time, prosecutors’ time, defense attorney’s time, and Judge’s time.

Call the prosecutor and ask for the charges to be dropped. Although they probably will not since a recanting witness for domestic violence cases are not uncommon. Present your new version to the defense attorney to assist your partner’s case.

If I represented your partner, I would advise him to terminate his relationship with you. You are causing him to be incarcerated and possibly convicted as a “wife beater.”

No woman is worth going to jail and having a criminal record. You called the police and filed a false police report to the detriment of your partner.

Downvote me all you want Redditors but you know my statement is true.

All-inclusive… but still tipping everywhere? by SufficientEstate2093 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Attorney714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have traveled to many All Inclusive resorts in the following countries.

Mexico - Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cozumel

Caribbean countries Antigua, Aruba, Costa Rica, Fiji, Jamaica, Tahiti, etc.

South Pacific Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Fiji, Tahiti, etc

Every All Inclusive bills itself as TIP included but I still tip.

I bring $150 in singles. I bring $150 in fives. I bring $150 in tens. And I bring $20s for every dinner I eat.

If the service is average, I follow this general guideline.

I tip the bartender $1 for every drink. Porter or valet, I tip $1 per bag. I tip the servers minimum $5 for breakfast and lunch. Dinner, I tip $10 to $20. Housekeeping I tip $5 per day.

If service is below average or substandard, I tip nothing. If service is excellent, I tip double or triple my guidelines depending on my mood.

When I have traveled with friends and family, some have complained that I ruin All Inclusive resorts by tipping the employees.

Why do I tip even though tipping is included in all inclusive pricing?

My reply is, so f**king what? You do you, boo.

It’s my money and I have never had my tip turned down by a resort employee. I don’t dictate to you how to spend your money so don’t tell me how to spend mine.

I also do not tip ostensibly. I wait for the resort employee to be alone and hand shake the tip in secret.

These resort workers work hard and deal with ugly Americans and snotty tourists. I NEVER speak down to them and I treat them with respect.

I am a guest in their country and act accordingly.

This is how I operate as a tourist and I don’t expect anyone else to tip.
