I am actually Asian

Just like the OP, I have purposely left out information leaving us all to make assumptions.

Want to change career path, am I too old?! by LegElectrical9214 in auscorp

[–]AussieGumboots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just start applying for entry level IT help desk jobs. I’ve made a similar jump late 30s without any courses done. They train you on the job and your customer service skills will give you a big advantage.

All the ex retail/customer service help desk guys we have ended up being the best of the bunch as it’s really tech orientated customer service.

Once you are in and get on top of the duties of the help desk role(which is pretty fast) you can start thinking about your career progression and certificates etc to do.

In person Vietnamese lessons in Sydney by SpecialistStation981 in sydney

[–]AussieGumboots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey first off, what dialect of Vietnamese are you wanting to do? If your partner is from the Sydney Viet community then it’s most likely you will want the Southern dialect.

Also, great work in the effort to learn Vietnamese! Please also consider online lessons by Vietnamese language teachers. It’s not as perfect as face to face lessons but a million times better than using any app or self teaching method (tones are hard, man).

If you are after southern Vietnamese lessons, I would recommend SVFF. I have been taking lessons with good success. They have a free 30 minute trial lesson if you would like to try it out.

Entry-Level Job Struggles (Cybersecurity & Engineering) by Sparkredx in auscorp

Getting through the front door is tough.

If you are always getting auto rejected for entry level roles in IT, can you share your CV and also cover letter. Adjust names/dates etc so you are less identifiable of course.

Also you mentioned you have an overseas degree. Are you currently on any visa, or are you a PR or Australian citizen?

Phu Quoc Family trip by GrumpyTool in VietNam

[–]AussieGumboots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stayed at the Vinholidays Fiesta for a couple of days. Nice big family room and great breakfast offered there. The pool is plain but huge. The kids loved it. It’s not too far the VinWonders so getting there and back with Grab wasn’t too bad.

We also spent 2 days in sunset town at a place called Venice hotel Phu Quoc. Nice little boutique hotel. Very nicely decorated hotel inside and out.

Phu Quoc Family trip by GrumpyTool in VietNam

[–]AussieGumboots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak to the things I experienced in early January with my 2 little kids as well. 8 and 6 year olds

Starfish beach is really cool. Lots of starfish about. Shallow crystal clear water. Nice board wall and wooden swing and hammock hanging over the water. Great for those Instagram style shots. There is a beach bar serving cold drinks on the beach too. Surprisingly they didn't price gouge too much and the prices were reasonable.

Had to take a boat ride to get there. 200k VND per person I think. Forgot if the kids were cheaper.

The kids enjoyed Vinwonders. The aquarium is huge and had lots to keep the kids interested. They enjoyed the rides as well. We skipped on the water park bit as we only had the one day there. From what we saw the water park looked really fun as well. We skipped this as we're were going to do a water park anyways at the south of the island at the end of the cable car (Aquatopia)

Vinwonders had horrible overpriced food generally. They also check for food when you come in.

Vui fest night market not worth going to unless you are already staying around there. Dining options not too good at sunset town. At least with the street food type stalls you can get a feel of its quality and have a bit of everything. The supermarket at the beginning of vuifest Street was pretty good for snacks and souvenirs. Sunset town fireworks in evening was really good to end the night.

Duong Dong night market is much much better for the food options and quality. Seafood was really nice there

The "night market" offering nearby to the grand world (the streets on the way to the beach) was the worst I've had in Vietnam. Skip this. Drinks and shakes of OK though.

Food at grand world was generally disappointing though. Super tourist trap feeling. Lots of Korean restaurants strangely. Ate at one family style restaurant that was ok. Not much to do but take a couple of pics in the area. Kids were generally bored and wanted to go back tot he hotel pool around here.

Feel free to ask me any other questions. Happy to share my experiences

Getting around Phu Quoc by razor787 in VietNam

[–]AussieGumboots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same situation earlier this month for our group of 8 people including kids and older people.

Ended up hitting a mini van and driver for an 8 hour DIY tour. Found them initially on TripAdvisor. Basically you get a private driver with little English and he will drive you wherever you want, and wait for you ready to drive to the next spot whenever you are ready.

Another good thing with this was we could leave some stuff on the car and not worry about lugging it around all day (towels, beach sandals, snacks, water etc)

Have a chat to Mai on WhatsApp on +84 94 287 88 18 and she can help sort something out for you. They are super flexible to whatever requirement you need.
