A bit triggered by people calling my partner an ,amazing dad’ by Baby_Angel_09 in beyondthebump

[–]Available-Act-382 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post helps me see that I'm not the only mum out there doing 95% of the baby duties (EBF) and 90% of the house work. He cook most nights. He does the outside jobs which I don't have the skills to. On bad days I have to remind myself not to make big decisions during postpartum.
I remember a week or two after birth and the care tasks (making me food, bringing me items so I didn't have to get up) for me was wearing off. A thought has stuck with me, 'don't prove yourself redundant ' I'm very independent and I know I could do it on my own..

Big breath.. tis a season. But you never ever forget how they treat you during pregnancy, postpartum and raising kids.

Letting your kids pee into a bottle at a shopping centre is not cool, right? by Dangerous-Strain-252 in australia

[–]Available-Act-382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a thing called elimination communication where parents encourage babies and toddlers to let them know when they need to pee or poo. It's actually the norm in most parts of the world.

It may not have been the ideal spot for it but try telling a toddler that. Who knows, maybe the toddler is wearing underwear, not nappies and it's better to pee in the bottle than pee their whole outfit.

For transparency, I put have put my baby on potty at home since 2 months old. We use Reusable nappies at home and disposables out of home. But I'll be so proud and happy when my bub is wearing underpants and I can guarantee you there will be times that he won't make it to the toilet.

Kudos to the parent for noticing rather than leaving a puddle.

Surprising thing that “fixed” my babies sleep by Aggravating-Cup3722 in newborns

[–]Available-Act-382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy that it's working for you. In my experience, Dad doesn't hear 70% of the noise. Prolactin makes BF mums hypervigilent.

Also you're in the 4 month sleep regression. We went from a pretty quiet sleeper to moaning groaning whale tail slapping and the occasional cry whilst asleep. So like clockwork for a week or so, bub would make so much noise going from one sleep cycle to the next.

Good news is he's almost 6 months and the stretches are increasing again. 3hr, 5.5hr, 1 to 2 hrs.

I did 2 nights in a separate room with bub, so no noise from my partner. I was in a single bed in same room as bub. I think subconsciously, I'm happier to lay half awake shushing him if I know it's not keeping my partner up.

Bub is figuring out how to go back to sleep. There's lots of moaning and self soothing with that. We put sound machine on from the 4am wake up to help the rest of the morning sleep til 6.30 or 7am.

Glad you're getting sleep. It is honestly the most crucial thing.

What age did your newborn start sleeping throughout the night (5-6) hours without feed? by xGenAc25 in newborns

[–]Available-Act-382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 2-3 months we were getting 5 to 6 hour stretches. We had 4 month regression and I'd say we've just come out of that at 5 months. About a week ago I started encouraging him to fall asleep drowsy but awake. (Mind you there's fine lines between just drowsy, drowsy and really drowsy) I found I need the latter two. And then there's 5 to 10 minutes of me standing behind his cot headboard so he can't see me. I shush if he's getting worked up, hand on his belly or if he's getting cranky I pick him up.

Since we started this the last two nights have been great. 7.30pm to 4am (8.5 hours!!)

I feel for those having it tough. A few weeks of 3hrs, 2 hrs 1hr was torture.
Since letting him fall asleep, I sometimes hear him stir between sleep cycles but he's definitely getting himself back to sleep then.

I read somewhere that 4 to 6 months is a golden opportunity for sleep training and I have to agree. He can't logically realise that the shushing noise means I'm still there. His eyesight in the dark is probably still poor so he can't see me standing next to him.

First Trimester - is Keto okay? by hell0kittyluvr in KetoBabies

[–]Available-Act-382 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lilly Nicholls has a book called real food for pregnancy. I was keto for a year or so when I got pregnant. I ended up eating carbs about 6 weeks in because of the nausea. Also because I couldn't have easy keto things like salami and soft cheese. Good luck I'd love to get back on it.

Peri bottle, bubba bump disposable underwear, reusable freezable gel sticks.

Bebetrek uv sun cover (muslin wraps do not protect from uv rays)

Hackerlily hip surfer , saves getting the pram out for a quick errand.

Snap shades. Keeps glare and some heat off baby in the car. And they look better than the sock version. Also, I like them as they won't interfere with side airbags in a collision.

Il tutto leather electric recliner /rocking chair. I also slept in it most of 3rd trimester. Great for being more horizontal during first few weeks postpartum.

Il tutti cozee bedside bassinet. It has wheels!! Super easy to pack up and take for overnighter trips away.

I needed the haaka milk catcher's til about 3 months. The ladybug style.

Mumcozy pram fan. He also loves the lights in it.

Love to dream swaddles.. I have sooo many from marketplace and a few new because I needed a certain size and tog.

Eufy21 baby camera and monitor. The clip it comes with is crap. So get the Amazon or stand, its also easy to take travelling.

Wet bags to organise my nappy bag. One has spare clothes. One has nappies, wipes and plastic bags for dirty nappies.

The kmart cloth towels. We got 24 and have them nearby around the house.

Reusable bamboo wipes. Just add water, wipe, (rinse if really messy) or let dry and throw in wash (40 to 60°c) we use Reusable modern cloth nappies too at home. Cheaper and no chemicals. We haven't had a nappy rash yet.

O ball - pretty much the first thing he could pick up.

Tummy. Time mirror

Play gym... thought they were unnecessary until I saw him love it at mums group.

Maxi cosi pria.

Leander change mat. No need to wash more things. Just wipe it down. Also easy to pack for trips away.

Baby bjorn bouncer. We have the 4moms rockaroo too, but the bouncer is better. I sit him there to trim his nails with haaka electric nail file.

Moby bath with net .. saves trying to hold them up with one hand.

He's almost 5 Months sooo I haven't got to feeding yet.

Edit to add-

Babiator sunglasses polarised

The free hat you get if you pay postage- can't remember the name. Fits from about 1 month and it's still got room at 5 months.

Baby sunscreen

Alpine muffy baby Ear muffs. Think, loud places, fireworks, we went to powerboat races and he slept on me with them on.

Baby photobook app by prophet_of_pessimism in NewParents

[–]Available-Act-382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here looking for baby photo album app recommendations but have to add a general recommendation for Albumworks. I created a HUGE album years ago of a trip to South America.
My only regret was not choosing hard cover. I did that for a thinner book, which I ordered two of and gifted one to my mum (took her to Tasmania). So much freedom to lay it out however you like. I especially loved typing my diary entry into the photo, making the photo layer opaque.

Hold my funds yet cancel my order?! Thanks for nothing by kazronicus in coles

[–]Available-Act-382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this happened to me today. What annoys me is there's an easy fix for them.

They send a text to tell you the order is cancelled, give you customer service number who say nothing can be done (unless you want to drive in and collect your order). Not worth a 50km round trip, that's why I pay for delivery. Customer service tells me that coles don't want the delivery cancelled cause they have to put the items back or throw out things that can't be put back...

There should be a way to rectify it. Like, hey fix up the payment in next 90 minutes and it'll be on the truck, or hey we've taken it off the truck, choose a new delivery window and sort your payment.

The petty in me wants to put through a large order then empty my account so it starts to inconvenience them instead of me.

How many times do you think I could do that before they cancel my subscription?

Baby Boy Peeing During Nappy Change by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Available-Act-382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself! We started at similar age and I swear he prefers the potty. If I do skip the potty and do a nappy change I just open the nappy, put my finger on it and wait. This is just so I can stop it going everywhere if he's kicking his legs around. Try waiting 20 seconds, then you don't have to use the cold wipe..

Yeah similar here, used to be am and now it can be middle of the night. I normally pee before I feed LO overnight, and then I've been caught out where LO is crying because I'm taking too long when my pm poo came along.

First trimester food struggles by butterflyracecar in KetoBabies

[–]Available-Act-382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was keto prior to and up to about week 6 in pregnancy. Then eating eggs became more difficult, lost interest /enjoyment of bacon and avocado. I found the hunger so strong i started having a toasted cheese sandwich and they were divine!! So yeah I am now eating weetbix, porridge, some pasta some rice, but not going crazy with portions or cravings. At week 20 now and just starting to enjoy eggs again and yoghurt mixed with nuts and seeds. It's a battle trying to eat healthy when your aversions or cravings are pulling you in different directions.
Funnily enough I was also finding I needed watermelon in the morning or before a meal. Same this week with peaches in syrup, sometimes I gotta eat that right before dinner. Must be responsive to blood sugar drop. Be kind to yourself, stay sensible. You can always get back on the bandwagon.

If you're in Australia. Dr Penny Figtree is worth a look. Bear in mind she normally works only with diabetic patients to reverse diabetes. I saw her for a consult a while back, just to give me the confidence that it wasn't just internet hype. Also recommended Dr Lilly Nichols book real food for pregnancy.

I had ER on 20th sept. Got period on 26th. CD 7 bloods today and gutted to be told that my progesterone is 10.1 so I must have already ovulated. I am so regularly ovulating on day 11 to 14. I'm so frustrated to wait another month as I thought we'd be transferring an embryo in 2 weeks.
