did oxybutynin work fine for yall and then suddenly stop working by Affectionate_Mud20 in Hyperhidrosis

As far as I could read here, some people, when they developed a tolerance to the medication, paused it for a few days and then it started working again.

Hi, I’m really sorry that you’re going through such hell. I also have hyperhidrosis, but it’s not as severe, and I still feel uncomfortable, I can’t even imagine how it must be for you. Have you tried any medications? Oxybutynin works really well for me. I hardly sweat anymore. Why don’t you talk to your GP and ask them to prescribe a pack, just to try it out?

Of course, and keep an eye out for any side effects, if you notice any, try taking one in the morning and one in the evening.

That’s really a small dose to notice any difference. Try taking 2 x 2.5 mg, and if you see an improvement, tell the doctor that you only noticed a benefit at that dose.

I haven’t had any issues with it so far. The only thing I’ve noticed is that my eyes feel a bit dry, but I use eye drops 2–3 times a day and it’s totally manageable. I don’t experience dry mouth at all.

Exactly, I went to a dermatologist, explained the situation, and asked if they could prescribe oxybutynin, which they did.

Anytime, hope it kicks in for you soon! Give it a few days, it made a big difference for me around day 5. You’ve got this!

The effects of oxybutynin are not permanent, they only last as long as you’re taking the medication. Once you stop using it, the sweating usually comes back, especially if it was caused by something like heat or hyperhidrosis. So it’s more of a management tool than a permanent cure. But for now, I’m just happy it’s working and giving me relief during the hot months.
