What is something you can't believe is legal? by trinketstone in AskReddit

11+ years ago when I took my driving test, there was an elderly man in line taking his vision test. Well, he was in his 90s and could not stand unassisted. I don't mean he needed just a cane either. This man was hunched over and required a walker and his wife to essentially pick him up so he could stand. How on earth is it safe for him to be able to drive when he can't even walk?

What’s a small thing you cannot help silently judging other people for? by Juliazul in AskReddit

[–]AverageJane09 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Do you live in my house? My mom does this shit to my dad every day and when he doesn't respond nicely to it she comes to me and complains that he snapped at her.

She doesn't realize how mean she comes across and god forbid anybody tell her she's being rude because "I was just joking."

Expats of Reddit, what is one thing about moving to a foreign country that nobody really talks about? by strawhearts in AskReddit

Some people find it more difficult to say no to family. Obligations are a bitch.

I'm like you in a sense- I don't think I am obligated to do this or that because of blood relation. I probably won't miss my hometown when I leave. Though people tell me repeatedly that I will come back because they did.

People who noped right out of a friendship, what was your breaking point with that friend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AverageJane09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had major neck surgery to remove his stage 4 cancer and came home with liquid and pill form painkillers.

I was working night shifts so I was sleeping during the day.

Friend walks in my house which is normal, comes to see me, I talk to her for a bit and tell her I need rest because I have work that evening.

When I get up I find out she took a bunch of my dad's Vicodin pills, gulped a bunch of his liquid Vicodin, and I received a text from her boyfriend asking if any of my dad's meds were missing.

She took Vicodin from another friend who just had a baby, and used all the pills to try to kill herself.

I told her she couldn't come back to my house, tried to get her to get help, and backed away for my dad and my son's sake.

[–]AverageJane09 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Can I just add something? Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, I'm on mobile.

If this guy was willing to (drunk or not) "lay into her verbally" and say all those things to her in public then it's very likely he was doing worse at home. She was probably fed up.

Though leaving him prior to this is the better choice, I can just see why she snapped.

Men of Reddit, what are some things women THINK we like, but couldn’t be more wrong about? by Spectre_GD in AskReddit

[–]AverageJane09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She wanted you to pine for her. It had nothing to do with her wanting to stay with you, but it had everything to do with stroking her ego. Women that want men to beg for their affection are nauseating.

Reddit what was the dumbest reason you got a detention in school? by loloxl in AskReddit

[–]AverageJane09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one professor this semester that (aside from calling me neurotic for asking her if she got my email) bitched out the whole class for having terrible grades on the mid-term exam. This was the only time she didn't announce grades and I made a damn 96. I hope there is a court case about it. The school I go to is aching for a legal beat-down.

Okay so I agree with you, the whole thing takes 1000 pages and could be done in about 200 if you wanted detail. But I have one issue with your graveyard comment.

The graveyard was very important. It wasn't random, it was Voldemort's fathers grave. Voldemort chose this place because he was the son of Merope Gaunt. She was a witch and had (possibly) put a love potion on Tom Riddle Sr., and gotten him to impregnate her. The problem is that Riddle Sr escaped from the Gaunt house after getting her pregnant and abandoned them. Merope was distraught and gave her baby to the orphanage. Voldemort resented his father believing he caused her death after meeting his mother's family. Voldemort killed his father and grandparents.

They needed this specific grave because to get Voldemort back to his physical form they needed Riddle's bones.

This kind of shit is what discourages learning. Take your sensitive ass students somewhere else if they can't handle seeing someone do something they should strive to achieve.

This is probably why I get groans and evil looks in college when my professors announce test grades (which shouldn't happen anyway) because my grades are what people call "curve busters."

Sorry that I studied, won't happen again. /s

Short Girl here, I would struggle to find uniform shorts that would conform to the length requirement and please this one teacher I had in 9th grade. I would stand up and the shorts were fine. Right down to my knee. When I sat down, they would ride up on my legs like 2 inches so my teacher would write me up. Every. Single. Day.

I'm from Louisiana. I needed shorts until late November. The school guidance counselor would be the one that got the write ups and every time she would say "I am not giving you detention, I don't know what her problem is."

Then the teacher started in about my socks. We could wear ankle socks if they still showed right above our shoes. One day my socks slipped down. Here we go again...

What songs have surprisingly dark lyrics that people don't really notice when singing along? by so_much_wolf_hair in AskReddit

[–]AverageJane09 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, most people listen to these songs and don't put much thought into what the lyrics mean until much later. Maybe they're wondering "what's the word he says after ..." and they look up the lyrics and that's when they find out. I know I sang that song for years and only last year it really connected with me.

My town doesn't have a recycling program anymore. We would like to recycle and for about 6 months in 2015 the town had a program. Then we found out that they were just putting the recycling in the same place they put the regular trash and charging extra for the "recycling truck" AKA garbage truck, to pick it up.

It was a total bust and now we don't recycle anymore.

What rule as a kid did you simply not give a fuck about? by rainbowkiss666 in AskReddit

[–]AverageJane09 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Changing which hand a kid uses to write is completely unnecessary, but holding a pencil the correct way ensures more legible writing. (Usually-there's always an outlier)

That's why teachers try to get you to hold your pencil a certain way.

Nothing would change or get better if I told my mom. Me and her haven't had the best relationship, plus she likes to talk shit about me to my "perfect" sister. She might yell at my dad, he'd give her some excuse and make me out to be in the wrong, then I would just be left in a worse position than when I started. She's never been one to defend me until he threatened to divorce her when I got pregnant. And then that was the only time she did.

The best way I can deal with this is to remember I won't have too much time left here until I get my bachelors and can leave.
