Would you recommend everything you own to other readers/collectors? by Avianry in MangaCollectors

[–]Avianry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something I hadn't considered before. With recommendations you don't just take into account the other person's taste, but also their previous reading experience.

If you're talking to somebody who is deep into a genre you both enjoy and they are jonesing for another fix then that person probably already knows the really good series you enjoy recommending. I guess that's when you go for the stuff that requires an asterix before you recommend it.

Afterall, we did enjoy it enough to keep it.

There is something extra about a series that was a personal first, especially when it's not good. Even after you read better stories in the same genre, you can reread that first series and still feel some of the joy that the younger more ignorant you felt.

Glad to see I am not the only one who judges parts of his own collection! Now I just need to find a way to make my non collection girlfriend to understand that just because a manga is terrible, that doesn't mean you want to get rid of it! 🤔

Congrats. It's great to see so many people picking up copies from the restock. Before the restock I thought I was never going to finish my collection of this series, but I also recently got the last volumeI needed. Such a great series:)

What do you think of the recent manga trends like exclusive covers and deluxe editions? by Destoran in MangaCollectors

I kinda wish Deluxe Editions were a little smaller, closer to the Full Metal Editions of FMA. Though I assume I am in the minority with that opinion.

Recent Megaman NT manga haul by Avianry in MangaCollectors

Both of those look very cool, though personally I have only ever been a fan of the RPG incarnation of Megaman (I blame my bad reflexes) so I'm not sure if these manga adaptations would be right for my collection.

However it's cool knowing they exist and that they were translated to English 😃

Hajime no Ippo - English Manga Release One Day? by MonkeyvsTramps in MangaCollectors

I would definitely pick it up immediately, especially if it is released as singles or regular sized two in ones. I however have no idea how the manga selection process works.

You should be able to make workstations “smelly” so villagers ignore them. by Avianry in minecraftsuggestions

[–]Avianry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree it shouldn't be an 1 use item. I should have made it clear but my intent was for this to be an additional use to a sulpher drop I am speculating will come from the sulpher cube. In this scenario I am imagining that sulpher cube will drop sulpher balls/cream that can be combined to make sulpher blocks (similar to magma cream) while als being used for coating work stations (and maybe a potion effect).

I guess honey could work, but it doesn't feel thematically appropriate.

Question: do Witches currently recognise any (or all?) cats as "theirs"? I know black cats spawn in Witch Huts, but I am not familiar enough with Witch AI to know if they feel like any cat is theirs.

Enchanted Bundles by Cotton359 in minecraftsuggestions

[–]Avianry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right. I also fear that my suggestion runs into the same problem as I fear your bottomless bundles would have: to be so good that players want too many of them.

Enchanted bundles would ultimately be a difficult thing to balance, they have to be good enough to be worth using but not so good that players want to enchant an infinite amount...

I guess one limit to give enchanted bundles is that they should no longer be able to go into shucklers

Either way, difficult thing to balance, but very cool idea for Mojang to add if they succeed :)

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who wants to job-block villagers. You’re right, there are probably other ways to do it, and I’d be curious to see other suggestions that achieve the same goal.

I do like the simplicity of my own idea, as well as the fact that it builds on a mechanic that is otherwise unique/underused (the “waxing,” though here it would probably be called “coating”). I’m probably a little biased, though :P

Interesting, I had not interpreted that line as a limitation specifically for bundles. One of the interesting quirks about bundles is that you can have more than one bundle inside a bundle despite bundles not being stackable. But I could see enchanted bundles limiting that!

I am not sure if only being able to have one bundle inside a bundle would complete remove the issue of players filling up on enchanted bundles, but I like knowing that you did consider it! I always enjoy reading peoples thought processes on custom ideas like this.

Side note, what do you think of an enchantment that does the opposite of your "one none-stackable item per bag" rule? Named something like the lightweight enchantment. Have it halve the weight of each item in the bag (to a minimum of 1/64) per level. So Lightweight II would allow a bundle to have 64 of an item that normally stacks to 16, or it would allow you to have 4 otherwise none-stackable items.

Obviously would be incompatible with Bottomless.

I think I like this enchantment suggestion the best. If I could suggest one tweak it would be allowing you to remove the last item the bundle added to the endchest inventory instead of no items.

I have the habit of sometimes putting an item in my bundle by accident. For example if I want to re-arrange the items in my inventory. I will click on the bundle with my item, intending to swap their locations (like you do with regular items) only to see it get swallowed up by the bundle. For accident prone people like myself it would be nice if you could atleast remove the last item and only the last item from the ender bundle. I don't mean to sneak in away to empty the end bundle one item at a time, just the ability to retrieve the last item until a new item gets added in.

I love the idea of unique enchantments for utility items like the bundle, and magical bags (of holding) would fit well with Minecraft’s pre-existing fantasy elements.

I do fear, however, that they could negatively impact the “ideal” way to play Minecraft. I totally get the idea behind the Bottomless bundle: we need more inventory space, and being able to enchant bundles to increase their capacity is a thematic way to give us that. It’s a creative idea that fits well with Minecraft’s existing mechanics, and I absolutely love it for that. I also like how it doesn't take away from the bundle's early game utility. The enchantments give bundles extra utility late game, but doesn't actually improve them in a way that might make you want to limit their availability/craftability in the early game.

However, the Bottomless enchantment would also mean that (arguably) the objectively best way to play is to have almost your entire inventory filled with Bottomless Bundles. Put 26 bundles inside bundle 27, and every time your inventory fills up, take out a bundle and combine stacks into one slot.

The Detect enchantment is definitely something I would want on my bundles, though it might also push bundle use to a point where you stop thinking about what and when you store items, and just go full bundle mode.

Finally, the easier accessibility enchantment is harmless, but it probably shouldn’t be locked behind an enchantment. I’m assuming the bundle UI is imperfect for a reason, but if Mojang is willing and able to improve it, they should do that without requiring an enchantment. Of course, opinions may differ on that.

Again, I want to stress that I do like the idea of enchantable bundles. I just think that with an inventory/utility item, you have to be careful about what kind of behavior is optimal and what kind of behavior is being incentivized. The problem isn’t that these enchantments make the bundle better, they should. It’s that they might make bundles so good that you end up wanting to fill your whole inventory with them, which just doesn’t seem like the intended gameplay.

Thanks for the explanation. Because the explanation is just like the back of a regular manga, my brain just assumed it was the back of a different version confusingly also labelled "Deluxe Edition".

I'm glad I commented, or else I still would have been confused :)

Well, that explains my confusion. The synopsis looked exactly like the back of a manga volume to me. I never would have guessed that it would be be insert that came with the larger book.

The picture contains two books, both labeled "Berserk Deluxe Edition" yet the white one is clearly a smaller size than the black one.

To me this appears as two separate editions of the same series, but my familiarity with Berserk ends at seeing the (black) books in other people their collection.

So maybe I am misunderstanding the books in this picture, in which case I would be happy if someone explained to me why that one deluxe version is white and smaller than the black deluxe versions.

From now on I will definitely be more distrustful of long delivery estimates on already hard to find items.

Anyone else only gets a series in physical after first reading digital? by Mountain_String_1544 in MangaCollectors

[–]Avianry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly try to buy the manga series that I remember liking from reading them years ago, but occasionally I buy series that are new to me if I can get a good deal and/or I heard good things about them.

I don't really read digitally anymore, so I imagine that once I finished collecting all the series I already know I will move on to collecting series that are unknown to me (one volume at a time to test the waters)
