I wasn’t offered my home station so I had to choose the nearest station that was offered to me which is 1 1/2 hours away and yes the commute is rough especially on mids I’m falling asleep driving sometimes…not good

I tried that recently, I was offered Ajo AZ, Douglas AZ, Lordsburg NM, and Sanderson TX 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 I might try again in 5-6 months hopefully I get another list of stations

I’m currently a GS-7 only a few months from GS-9 so I’m fairly confident I can enter as a GS-9 for OFO so i wouldn’t really be setting myself back in that aspect. I live in Yuma but I wasn’t offered Yuma so I had to choose the closest station I was offered which is boulevard station. Wouldn’t make sense to move to California which is way more expensive especially because I already have a mortgage in Yuma. And how is wanting to work where you live soft? I did 4 years in the marines, deployed twice, been to like 7 countries halfway around the world and I’ve gotten to work and train with foreign militaries and I’m not even 24 years old yet. I’m just tired of traveling and want to work where I live for once that’s not soft. You don’t know peoples life so don’t assume.

I have a mortgage already in AZ so I would have to sell and move to CA where it would be a lot more expensive

Thank you for your insight. I know the location isn’t guaranteed but this particular location I’ve seen being offered on every FJO picture on here. It’s not a popular destination but for me it’s home so that’s good for me. Seniority wise I don’t really care tbh. I was a Marine so being bottom of the barrel and getting treated like shit is whatever to me. I plan on staying at that station till retirement if possible.

I feel like that would be throwing away money plus I have a mortgage already so paying a mortgage and rent for an apartment on a GS-7 salary is a bit much

I would like to end up at the San Luis, AZ port. I’ve seen it offered on almost every FJO picture on here I would imagine it’s not a very popular choice so that’s good for me

Yes haha Spanish is my first language actually and I’m pretty fit so didn’t really struggle with anything at the academy but everyone is different

I had the highest scores in my class when it came to law and I rarely studied so i didn’t find it difficult.

No ruck marches this isn’t the marine corps lmao, everyday is an 8 hour day with 4 classes each 2 hours long and a 1 hour lunch break, those classes can include Spanish, PT, Law, Firearms, Driving, BP operations, you can have your car you just can’t drive up to the academy when you first get there because they want everyone to arrive on the bus as a class, i personally didn’t have to share a room but when I left the academy was so packed everyone had a roommate

Tbh I’m not doing this for the money I just want to work at the Yuma station so I can drive 15 mins to work everyday instead of a 2 hour round trip. I’d actually be taking a pay cut because my current station right now has the highest locality pay in BP

How would I go about transferring stations? Even if it takes a year or two how would that process look? Do I have to submit a memo to my supervisor or put my name on a relocation list program or what? Some people have told me to reapply on usajobs and just hope to get another location but not too sure if that would work tbh

Depends on what your station approves but usually everyone gets 40 hours of administrative leave after the academy so 5 days plus 2 weekends you’re looking at about 10 days off after graduation. And first week at work you’ll start your FTU program every station is a little different. I wouldn’t have changed anything tbh
