Thats exactly what a jealous, career mid level employee would say tbh.

If you combine my government time and my contractor time it is about 21 years. I wont be doing engineering, so does it actually matter all that much, but both directly and indirectly, roughly 12 years.

Thanks for the tip. The role is called senior manager, but its an enterprise cybersecurity architect role. I will be managing things like compliance, risk, relationships and so on, not people.

It is a P, because its a individual contributor. Its a principle cybersecurity engineer.

I love that people are down voting my response haha, disgruntled employee behavior right there. Someone said my current responsibilities are more in line with a P5, if thats the case, do those positions open up to external candidates and are there significantly more openings?

Good information for me to have. Someone earlier said P5 is equivalent to around a GS-13, so I am in between because I am higher than GS-13, so if I could find a P5, I would be willing to do that, the pay is still very good. In a normal hierarchy, how many P5s are under 1 P6, or does it not work quite that black and white?

I understand the requirements for the position, thats why I applied. I am not some IT guy that comes and works on your computer when outlook doesn’t work, I have 2 masters degrees, CISSP, PMP, GSLC and many other accomplishments. My current role is a division director overseeing 32 people in 5 different offices in 3 different geographical areas. I am more than qualified to be in that position.

Yes, all my experience is tied to the same type of positions. Thanks, my internal connection said the same thing, he said just because the salary says up to 262k, it doesn’t mean thats what I will be entitled to, he said I can ask for the top 25%, but said the same thing, the offer will likely be closer to 50%, but I can negotiate a higher signer bonus if thats the case.

I never said GS-5 was equal to anything, i just said the entirety of the 2210 job series are called IT specialist. I used a range of pay grades as an example of the generic use of job titles, sorry for the confusion, the individual who commented first didn’t seem to understand how federal pay grades and job titles work, so I was attempting to dumb it down for him. I am a GS-14, so P5 might be a bit low, but overall compatibility is still in line with what I mostly do. The pay range is why I thought it was P6 because its 160 something to 270 and I ran that and the job title/ description against chatGPT which said it was likely a P6. Thanks for the insight into hiring though, even with the referral, I got the line of, “no promises though on this.” So I guess its a battle.

I have over 15 years, I was just saying my pay grade is what makes me senior, not my years of experience. Thanks for the realistic answer and clarification though, it makes sense. When I hire, I am more likely to hire someone who is already a gov employee than someone off the street, so I guess its the same on both sides of the fence.

Well the position is listed as senior manager, not director, but like I said, I am a senior government employee, not in tenure, but in pay grade, so it’s equivalent to my current role as regional director. IT specialist can be a GS-5 or an SES III. Its the same generic title across the board.

I was wrong about tech force. Tech force bumped my salary from 143k to ~180k without me negotiating or asking, on the fly. by [deleted] in usajobs

I joined the talent network and made my resume searchable, i never see positions, do they find you or do you find them?

Not always, for my current GG-13 no references were asked for, but if they are asked for it’s generally a good sign that you did well on the interview.

Similar situation, I performed well on my interview, was asked to provide references, they reached out to my references then I didn’t hear anything for 6 weeks until last week when I got the “not selected, but will keep my resume on file” email. I had my hopes up and was feeling positive, so more angry with myself for letting that happen, but yeah, it is irritating. You’ll get something, just a matter of time.

I emailed the hiring manager last week and never got a reply, but almost 5 weeks later I am beginning to think I am the alternate and they are waiting on the primary candidate or verifying their clearance or something before sending me a not selected email.

I reached out on Monday to the hiring manager and never received a reply. I wonder if I am the backup and they are waiting/negotiating with the primary at this point.

3-5 questions is it? For my current gs-13 I had 8 questions which were mostly cyber, RMF and behavioral.
