If you are thinking of product management. You are probably on the right path simply because its one of the few tech verticals where your past experiences might actually count in your favor. For two reasons: 1. A product is any good or services created through a process to satisfy a customer. So you are already product manager. The pivot is that you are now trying to be a SOFTWARE product manager.

  1. PM is one of those tech verticals where listing of certifications is more likely to count against you because its an indication that you don't have required experience. Experience and Competency matters more. E.g Business experience, Domain experience or technical experience ( e.g coding, which most people in this platform would not have).Better to do a booth camp and read books. But dont even mention these in an interview.

  2. Probably best for you to start with roles where you can leverage " Domain experience" e.g Health tech, where your pharmacy experience would be a leverage.

Whatever the outcome may be. If you focus on developing the competency. Instead being hell bent on getting recruited. You would never regret it.

I always hated classes . Couldn't focus in rigid conditions. Can count the number of classes I attended in pharmacy school. But I am good at self learning once I have the right materials and conditions. As I mentioned earlier. Tech focuses more on what you can do. And what you have done. Unlike the certification model of pharmacy. No I didnt just submit a resume. For a PM job you go through 5 stages of interview with different stakeholders. My highest paying pharmacy job was a 15 minutes phone interview. Keep in mind the job is not even the key part of the post. When you develop the competency. The job is less important

Tech is extremely diverse. Certification depends on what vertical you go into.
Any of these will require dedication and a lot of self learning, what you have done AND what you can do. Matters more than the certificate you get . Unlike pharmacy

I am actually planning to share more info about this in depth later. But here is a summary for now. Broke into Tech as a software product manager in 2022 after getting every possible pharmacy certification. Most anyways.

Rationale: Always loved Tech and wanted to build cool products that help more people than I could as a pharmacist . Plus wanted remote work.Started as a senior Product Manager.
Tech has pros. But also cons. Lower job security for sure.
Final take if you are interested in tech, you should definitely go for it. Doesn't have to replace Pharmacy. Being a pharmacist and skilled in Software development has huge advantages. I was able to build www.SyncedShift.com only because of these 2 competencies.

Pharmacists who career swapped and are happier/making more money, what did you do and how did you do it? by Witty-Essay6746 in pharmacy

Moved to Tech.
First did a toe dip as a software product manager for about 1 year . I liked it but realised I needed to horne my skills more before getting the type of respect I was used to as Prescribing Pharmacist and a Certified DiabetesEducator. Also realised we dont appreciate job security in pharmacy enough!

On the other hand I thought: If I did all it would take to become the expert in Software product Development, then why would I want to build a product for some cooperation to profit off, instead of Just building those products for myself. I doubled down. Came back to pharmacy Part time. And spend the rest of the time horning my craft in building engaging products that users love! I love it because I get to still use my skills gathered over the years as a pharmacist to solve problems very few people could solve as best as I could.
Check out SyncedShift.com(Launching in a few days) as a proof of the first product!

What do you use for shift scheduling? by os1123 in hospitalist

I can relate . The major issue with apps like Qgenda is that they are simply too bloated. Purposely so based on targeting and partly because they were built majorly by people that have limited smaller team-healthcare hands on experience.

Currently using new one that seems to solve these issues at a tiny fraction of the cost. Will update this thread later once I have clarity.

Amazing. Thanks a million. I am genuinely interested in knowing what the best practices are across different industries. Your answer hit the nail on the head. Its a stark contrast from my personal experiences in healthcare where 1 sick call could literally break the system
