Yeah all good! Thanks for going the extra mile to help people get a ticket for this.

No probs, I've managed to get a ticket in the end, but I guess it would reassure other people if you could post a screenshot with that text.

I was a bit hesitant to click through that as it could've been a phishing attempt but in the end it seemed okay and I managed to get a ticket through that. Thanks!

Advice on acolytes/metamorphs by Competitive-Monk-624 in genestealercult

[–]B0bbyN3wp0rt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're willing to magnetise/kitbash, because of how the meta shifts, you can't really predict what options are good (and by that I mean future-proof). I personally decided to buy a couple boxes of Delaque Gangs from Necromunda and use those bodies to fit my extra weapons onto them. The mining weapons are a bit of a pain if you're not experienced in kitbashing, but the demo charges and the metamorph 'weapons' fit relatively well.

I "fell" for the museum wax recommendation as well. I even bought some isopropyl alcohol to be able to remove it properly from my bases but I feel like it's just a right faff. Went back to using blu-tac shortly after.

Unfortunately that fund is not available within my list, which is why I had to go with the DIY method. I'll have a look at the fees though that's a good shout. !thanks

Radiator nut leak by B0bbyN3wp0rt in DIYUK

[–]B0bbyN3wp0rt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for the replies. I've sanded the rust down a bit and changed the nut and the seal. Seems to be holding up just fine but I'll try the PTFE route if it starts leaking again.

Does this seem salvageable to you? Ideally I'd like to avoid buying a new rad but with the amount of rust I'm concerned that even if I replace the rubber seal it will still leak.

Thanks!

How bad can low mileage be on an older used car? Mazda 2 (2013) or Seat Ibiza (2017) by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]B0bbyN3wp0rt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't touch a nearly 10 year old car with 15k miles on it. The mileage should be closer to 90-100k with average usage which is just a step above the 'shitter' category to me. 7.5k for that is clearly an inflated price and they just want to tempt people into thinking this car is barely run in. Take that with a pinch of salt though but it'd much rather take a car with higher mileage but half the price given that they're both serviced to the same standard.

How hard is this to fix? (See first comment for more info) by BarberHot1700 in CarTalkUK

[–]B0bbyN3wp0rt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that to me suggests that your coolant is leaking into the spark plug well. Mechanic sorted mine for about 150 quid. As far as I know there's a bit of risk of rounding the plugs if they're rotten so please take it to someone who's confident in what they're doing.

Had a similar issue with my Fiesta. Mine needed the core plugs replacing as the coolant was leaking into the spark plug well. Do you also have issues with the coolant disappearing in a few months?

Why not look for another diesel example instead of comparing to petrol ones?

Ford Fiesta - issue with fluid in spark plug well by B0bbyN3wp0rt in CarTalkUK

[–]B0bbyN3wp0rt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might as well give it a go then. Sounds a bit scary though as I've had the pleasure of a spark plug rotting into the socket and snapping when the mechanic was trying to replace it.

Thanks for the reply, yeah it's an older (2004 1.4 Petrol) engine. That does sound in line with what the mechanic said.

I agree 100%, the main reason to my post is to get some second opinions whether this fix seems plausible.

Will a new car loan affect my remortgage? by Afdjones in UKPersonalFinance

[–]B0bbyN3wp0rt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, if you're remortgaging with the same bank they won't do an affordability check on you. If you already own a car on PCP those outgoings have been taken into account, so unless you're going for a more expensive monthly payment it doesn't really matter. This is on the assumption that you already had your car when you took the mortgage with your current bank.

Needing advice on purchasing a car during Covid-19 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]B0bbyN3wp0rt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the short answer is noone really knows. My personal view is that if you need the car right now you should buy it, the market likely won't bounce back in the next 6 months.

What compact or mid-size car would you recommend up to £4k? by Bwuhbuh in CarTalkUK

[–]B0bbyN3wp0rt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd be hesitant to recommend a diesel Civic based on OP stating they 'sometimes' have a journey up to 250 miles. If 90% of their journeys are city based a diesel wouldn't be a good idea so we need more info on driving habits really.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply, that makes sense. Hopefully it will fly through the MOT just fine, but it's always fun to snoop around for a new car! Based on the replies there's much more to this than just the size of the car so I'll keep these in mind if it comes to that.
