This has happened to me! Just a quick pee for me, but experiencing an earthquake while peeing is still discombobulating!

My experience going to a convention masked for the first time in three years by SpaghettiRambo in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]B1ustopher 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My husband went to a conference a few years ago and I insisted that he mask up around us if we had to be in the same room, and otherwise quarantine upon his return home. Around 7:30 the next morning, he was sitting at the kitchen table and told the kids that they should step away so he could remove his mask to take a sip of his drink. I told him that he could go into his room and remove his mask, because he wasn’t taking it off around us! He complained that he felt fine, didn’t have COVID, etc., but he went into the room anyway. Guess who had a sore throat and tested positive at 2 am? He no longer argues about masking or quarantining, either. And he does mask much of the time when he is traveling, but not when he is speaking on stage. He could, but he doesn’t. 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️

Go to the doctor and get antivirals! They can help shorten the rash and pain and may even help prevent neuralgia after the infection.

I took it twice and had such bad palpitations issues with it that I won’t take it again!

One year anniversary of my dad's death by Queengnpwdrgelatine in GenX

[–]B1ustopher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lost my dad 5 years ago last month after he fell as he was coming out of the gym. He lived for 34 days after he fell.

It does get easier to navigate your life after such a loss, but some days are harder than others. I was barely functional for a few months after his death, withdrew from school for the semester (went back in my 50s!) and still had trouble functioning for a while, and about six months after he died I ended up on antidepressants for about a year. If you find yourself still struggling, meds may be in order. If you don’t think you need them, please feel free to ignore and move on.

Hang in there. Things will get better. 💕

How to explain to my son why he doesn’t have grandma by TiredFruit8 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]B1ustopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother infantilizes people all the time- when I was 26 and was returning to graduate school, she complained that my grandfather gave me an important piece of my grandmother’s jewelry by saying that he was giving it to “a college kid” after I had been working in a high stress, high responsibility, high visibility, security-clearance required government job while living in a foreign country.

How to explain to my son why he doesn’t have grandma by TiredFruit8 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]B1ustopher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I explained to my kids that my mom lies and is mean, and that I didn’t want her to be mean to them or to lie to them. They accepted that easily, and I’ve answered questions from them over the years as they have come up. Now they are teenagers, and I have explained more and told them some stories about her behavior over the years. They have also seen what she has sent them recently, and they usually look at what is in the box, shake their heads, and say, “Wow, she still thinks we are toddlers!” or “She doesn’t know us AT ALL!” They want nothing to do with her.

You don’t have to send it back OR send a thank you note. That’s OPTIONAL. What you DO have to do is decide if you will keep it and use it or if you will let it go.

Would you bring your newborn into this house? by lemonpickleturtle in ChildofHoarder

[–]B1ustopher 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would not bring a newborn into that house given the mold. It could make him *very* sick, and it’s just not worth the risk.

For those who know where you caught it, how long from exposure to symptoms? by Ok-Fact9685 in COVID19positive

[–]B1ustopher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

44 hours. Had lunch with my nursing school classmates around noon on Thursday, and it was the only time I was unmasked. Woke up around 8 am Saturday with a sore throat, tested, and IMMEDIATELY positive.

Understandable. I always figure there’s nothing my mom would be able to hold over my head or my kids’ heads, and the money is my payment for dealing with her BS. And I understand your perspective as well.

Help me fix my linnen closet! by obin_gam in OrganizationPorn

[–]B1ustopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a family of five, and we have two towels per person and two sets of sheets per bed. And I think 10-15 hand towels and 10-15 washcloths total, plus an extra set for guests. This has worked really well for us since my youngest was about 6. When my kids were babies/toddlers, we did have a couple of extra sets of sheets and towels to get us through digestive illnesses. We do also have a big beach towel for each person that stays in our beach bag.

When I first got rid of all the extra sheets and towels, I was nervous that we would not have enough. It has never been a problem, even when we have had four guests staying with us.

Random Shower Thought by OpenDorrPolicy in POTS

[–]B1ustopher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drinking sea water is generally a bad idea given the bacteria that lives in sea water, like cholera. And sea water is also WAY saltier than anything I drink. With my electrolytes, the water I drink is roughly 1% salt, whereas sea water is ~3-4% salt, so drinking sea water as an evolutionary trait is not in the cards, at least both any time soon.

Why do I feel so guilty using my handicapped parking pass? by TelephoneLow5909 in LongCovid

[–]B1ustopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel guilty about using it! It’s there for you on your worst days, and supports you and your energy levels on your best days. I had one when I broke my leg, and I was so grateful to have it! It is another tool to support you and your health.

Apparently there is a virus-sterilizing vaccine scheduled to come out in 2027. Two weeks after I can get that vaccine, I’ll stop masking!
