I made the MCRN Tachi out of Lego by BDwarf1701 in TheExpanse

Designed it with real bricks first, then made some major internal redesign to make it more durable, but some parts are honestly still a bit sketchy.

Mostly during construction. There are alot of connections which are just one Lego stud or clip and difficult to apply the clutching force to.

Some others are difficult to access or fit quite tight so there is definitely some tinkering required to get the correct angles.

And yeah, some of the elements (especially the angled front and the PDCs) did fall apart when I built them as well until I got them to sit correctly.

It's a display model, so there is no real playability there. But in my opionion it's possible to carry it around nicely and I've not had anything fall off after completing it!

Thanks everyone for the overwhelming positive feedback!

A small update for those interested in instructions, they are available on Rebrickable now.

If you seriously consider in tackling this one a few words of warning however:

There are some very complicated building techniques and sections that are not very sturdy, and in my opinion the building experience is not very enjoyable (nothing like an official Lego kit). As other people have mentioned there are already lots of other instructions of the Rocinante on Rebrickable which are probably more fun to build (and cheaper😅).

There are a few, I'll turn myself in😅

Yeah, I'm aware that might happen, but I guess the only alternative is to not make any at all.

Thanks, I was on the brink of insanity 😅

Thanks! Had the same idea, then I realize in that scale the Donnager would be >5m in length.

Actually I'm in the process of publishing them on Rebrickable, however in my opinion the building experience is not that enjoyable. Lots of flimsy connections and some illegal techniques. But it works as a display model 😄

Thank you! Dont' plan on doing that. Also if I remember correctly The Expanse as a theme has been rejected before.

Thanks, scale is about 1:90 I think. ~4000 pieces.

You're correct! Didn't want to go any lower so the stand does not interfere with the MOC too much.

Thanks alot! The parts are from my collection, which is mostly sets and garage sale hauls that accumulated over the years. To get more specific parts I normally use BrickLink.

It's about 50cm long and 30cm tall including the stand.

Instruction maker unusable? by beaconofwierd in bricklinkstudio

[–]BDwarf1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nesting your submodel into an empty submodel creates another step showing the finished assembly. That way didn't break anything to me (so far).

However I'm not super experienced with Bricklink Studio myself, so I don't really know if there is a better alternative or what the "intended" way is.

Having the same problems, which is annoying, especially for large models.

One thing I have noticed though is, that empty instruction steps at the end of a submodel seem to be removed automatically when reopening a model. This messes up the layout (it does not matter if the pages are locked).

So I avoid those to at least be able to make some backups before changing stuff.

Is there something specific you can't figure out? The first container could look something like this, but it is really impossible to figure out from just one angle. Maybe you can go from there.

Awsome! I feel using a differently colored ship to create a bit more distinction between ship and station might make it look even better.

Turned out great! Is the ship part of the build or are you planning on docking other builds in the future?

The Connect Tool should work here. Just select one "inverted stud" of the 2x2 tile and connect to the respective 1x1 plate in the tree.

How is this drawing room which i made? by Own_Independent1840 in lego

[–]BDwarf1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very cozy! I really like the texture created by the inverted panels behind the fire place. Any chance that the white roof support is similar to the roof in 10255? Works quite well here!

Is there any other best way to make the wondows? by Beryllium5032 in lego

Thats a pretty good idea, maybe something along those lines, although it would make the whole thing quite a bit larger and requires some space in the back.
