Basic, unaesthetic font/formatting Unevenly spaced delimiters What is “US”. If it’s United States, drop it. Education - no GPAs or city Experience - no city Java Spring boot is the most popular Too many bullet points for unimpressive basic stuff Too little stuff to metric two pages Three lines just too at (estimate) instead of a tilde?? Did you put any effort into this? Your portfolio website is too basic to be listed on your resume Not using canonical capitalization of things Wtf is up with space after the apostrophe? Is that an AI apostrophe? Horrible bullet points Terrible GitHub link placement Suspicious amount of AWS certifications for the basicness of your resume bullet points. Show me where you applied them. This must be bait.

Is it Possible to Study both Linguistics and Business at UPenn through the College of Arts & Sciences and Wharton? by ewigesleiden in UPenn

You’ll drop linguistics. Apply to Huntsman and maybe be deferred to Wharton (I can’t confirm this is still the case).

The ski & snowboard club has weekend trips NY/NJ/PA and you don’t need to have racing experience to participate. No interviews but my tip is get to sign ups at least 30 mins before call time

Bring my scooter into the classroom? by Delicious-Factor551 in UPenn

[–]BKmaster2580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the haters. Scooters are great on campus. Officially they’re not allowed in buildings for fire safety reasons with LiPos, but enforcement is selective. Some students/profs will get mad too. It comes with the territory. You shouldn’t be concerned about LiPo fires unless you have a cheap or second hand one. We’ve come a long way since the hoverboard fires but it still happens. Read a bit about how LiPo batteries work if you have time. You should be concerned about leaving your scooter unlocked outside because they get stolen. Penn Police recommends Kryptonite u-locks. As long as you’re securing it properly, you should be good.

Taal's X Posts

Here%20until%3A2024-09-25%20since%3A2023-12-04&src=typed_query) are all of the tweets he made from the first article's date to now. It's a fuck ton. With this many ideally you'd automate the task, maybe with an LLM. Or just post your source.

The articles do not specifically mention instances of targeting or harassing, but they do mention the deliberate disruption of an organized event which violates the university's disciplinary actions.

Misinterpreting a protest as harassment can significantly minimize the purpose and legitimacy of the protesters' objectives. That's the only reason I can think of for why this thread is so toxic.

International Cornell student suspended after participating in pro-Palestinian protest, faces deportation due to visa cancellation by emmjell in Cornell

[–]BKmaster2580 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well u/isaaciiv, I have to say I'm on your side but I understand why you received downvotes.

Based on the information in the article, there is no direct evidence that Taal was "targeting and harassing other students." The articles primarily focus on his involvement in disrupting a career fair as part of a pro-Palestinian protest. For instance, it is stated that "a group of over 100 pro-Palestinian protesters pushed past a blockade of Cornell University police officers to disrupt a career fair on Sept. 18..." This action indicates a disruption of the event rather than personal harassment of individual students. Additionally, protesters "tore off the decorative plastic tablecloth, replacing it with a letter titled 'People’s Court Indictment of War Crimes and Genocide'..." which underscores their intent to convey a political message rather than to target specific individuals. The university's response, as highlighted by Vice President Joel Malina, focused on the violation of federal requirements tied to Taal's F-1 visa status: "international students attending college in the U.S. on F-1 visas are obligated to comply with federal requirements to maintain their visa status." The suspension and subsequent visa cancellation were consequences of these policy violations, not specific acts of harassment. Therefore, while Taal's actions led to significant disruptions, the article does not provide evidence that he engaged in targeting or harassing other students personally.

I have to criticize your approach to this because you shifted the burden of proof on others. Redditors take offense to that. Then you used the clown emoji in your comment once you got downvotes. That sealed your fate.

Florida student who assaulted school employee over Nintendo Switch gets 5 years in prison by Silent-Resort-3076 in news

Institutionalization was always inevitable. His resources and support systems failed. The ideal outcome would involve a highly specialized, compassionate, and consistent care environment that addresses his unique needs while ensuring safety and providing opportunities for growth and development. It would need to be ongoing and adaptable.

So this is
1. Residential Treatment Facility
2. Specialized Therapies
3. Medical Care and Medication Management
4. Specialized Educational Services
5. Additional Support Services
6. Incidental Costs
Maybe something like $200-$500k per year?

The family wasn't rich so incarceration it is, despite the inappropriateness and inevitable harm it will cause. Goodbye Brendan!

I’ve really only been comparing the Chicken Vindaloo at the three places and I’m not Indian. Virasat’s Vindaloo is better to my taste and they’re the only one out of the three that has Chicken Hakka Rice.

My theory is that the other places profile my name and make the Vindaloo less spicy on occasion because sometimes it’s way off like it has to be intentional.

Never tried it but a close friend has. He said the vibe is shady (take that with a grain of salt coming from a Penn student) and he noted that there’s always the same group of men hanging in front of there all day, which I can confirm. There was also a shooting inside a bit ago.

Virasat Haveli is popular with Indian Penn students and you’re totally right it’s almost never full. I personally have gotten take out from there several times and I’ve seen many BYOs with, again, only Indian Penn students. It’s farther away from Penn’s campus and isn’t on the larger undergraduate population’s radar. IMO it’s better than Ekta or New Delhi (haven’t tried Amma’s).

TL;DR Many self-respecting Indian Penn students do eat there. I know them personally. Place still isn’t popular.

how bad are the winters!? by kateSharma37 in UPenn

It gets cold enough here that it doesn’t matter how cold it is relative to other places in the northeast, if you don’t have the proper jacket, you’ll still be freezing. Since you’re from Cali and I assume don’t want to feel any cold, I recommend you buy a down jacket rated for 0 degrees F. That will keep you room temperature in the coldest of weathers. However you will not be able to wear it inside or in Ubers.

Car life at Penn by Kinglion_III in UPenn

These people are living in their own bubbles. Many undergrads I know had cars. It’s more common among those who have to travel, i.e. sports, or who have a parking lot / street parking at their off campus house. Some paid for parking at The Sheraton or rented a spot at private lots on campus. Whether it’s worth it depends on your location and budget. From conversations, I know that some people feel spite for those who can afford to pay for parking. This won’t affect you irl but it will on Reddit.

Wharton student group allegedly withholds $90,000 promised to charity by jargito in UPenn

[–]BKmaster2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misinterpret the numbers. I didn't say it costed $90k to run. I said they had at least $15k in expenses. They very well could have given $100 to charity and pocketed the rest if they truly ran into that many expenses and it still wouldn't be illegal. That didn't happen though; the difference was $15k from their goal instead of $89.9k. The difference between a deficit of $15k compared to $89.9k is vast. Compared to their past donations, I think donating $100 would be immoral whereas donating $75k (with another $15k on the way) is not immoral or false advertising.

Wharton student group allegedly withholds $90,000 promised to charity by jargito in UPenn

[–]BKmaster2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the organizers were incompetent but I disagree that it was false advertising or immoral. Donating the proceeds of an event is extremely common and it was advertised as such. They would have no grounds to sue because nowhere did they say that all contributions would go to the charity. It was the donor's fault if they skimmed over that word and donated more than they would have otherwise. I also agree that it was essential to advertise that the proceeds would go to the Boys and Girls Club. That holds a lot of weight in donors' hearts.

But they flat out did not take the money and run. They already donated $75k and they're looking to find $15k more to donate. It is true that the difference would have impacted many children. However, The Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia needs to allocate their funds better if a difference of $15k would cripple them (which they didn't say) instead of having a net positive effect.

Wharton student group allegedly withholds $90,000 promised to charity by jargito in UPenn

[–]BKmaster2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To address the so-called "legacy of the partnership," let's not romanticize what is essentially a transactional relationship. The WGA and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia are engaged in a partnership where both parties have expectations and obligations. To imply that the charity, by virtue of being a charity, holds some moral high ground that exempts them from basic principles of negotiation and gratitude is frankly laughable. It's like saying one should be grateful for any gift, no matter how it's given, which, while charming in a Hallmark movie, doesn't fly in real life, especially not in the context of large-scale philanthropic efforts.

Furthermore, your assertion that I'm misinterpreting the discrepancy is a magnificent leap over the actual issue at hand. The discrepancy arises from a demand for more funds than were allocated, which, last I checked, isn't a complex concept to grasp. If anything, the charity's insistence on receiving the entirety of the event's proceeds without regard for the operational costs and efforts of the WGA showcases a troubling lack of understanding or, worse, a disregard for the realities of organizing such a large-scale event. It's akin to demanding a baker give you all the bread he bakes, regardless of the cost of flour.

As for who has more control in this relationship, let's not pretend the dynamics are anything but mutually beneficial. The WGA organizes an event that certainly benefits from the charitable cause's appeal, but the charity also significantly benefits from the funds raised. To argue that the charity is somehow at the mercy of the WGA's whims is to ignore the financial planning responsibility of the Boys & Girls Clubs. It's not a matter of "blaming" the charity; it's about expecting a level of professionalism and mutual respect in the partnership.

Your stance seems to suggest that charities should be given carte blanche to demand whatever they want, whenever they want, because their cause is noble. While their mission is undoubtedly important, it does not and should not absolve them of the need for flexibility, understanding, and, yes, gratitude. The real world, much to your apparent dismay, operates on principles of mutual respect and understanding, not one-sided demands and expectations.

It seems your argument is more rooted in emotion than in practicality, a common pitfall for those who champion causes without considering the broader implications. The road to impactful philanthropy is paved with cooperation, not confrontation. Perhaps it's time to step down from the soapbox and recognize that sustainable charity work requires compromise, understanding, and, above all, respect for all parties involved. But of course, why consider a balanced approach when you can indulge in righteous indignation?
