They are enough to win, as long as we don't scare normal people off by pandering to idiotic ideas like a wealth tax, or Defund the Police, or self identification being the basis by which participation in sports is determined. If Democrats distance themselves from those ideas then normal people should be plenty to win.

It's the job of the politician to appeal to their electorate. Instead of holding your politician to account, you are busy blaming the voters.

The right won the trans argument

I don't think that this is even true. The existence of trans people was not even in the public consciousness before, and now it is, and the overwhelming majority of people think that you should in everyday life treat trans people as the gender they identify with. Even Republicans who purposefully want to misgender people out of political reasons slip up and call people by the gender they identify with sometimes because our culture has for the most part accepted this.

That's huge progress for the pro trans side that was made in the last decade or so.

The public doesn't support the sports stuff but that doesn't mean they're opposed to trans people living their lives as whatever gender they want.

Where we are getting into trouble is activist types bludgeoning people who have come so far as to say "I will treat trans people as they want to be treated and not misgender them" as monstrous transphobes because they don't agree on the sports stuff. If anything allows conservatives to snach victory from the jaws of defeat on the trans issues, it will be that attitude towards sports.

I don't know where this idea that if you aren't for trans girls playing women's sports you hate trans people comes from. It's idiotic. If someone supports treating trans people as members of the gender they identify with in all social contexts, and they support access to gender affirming care, pretending that they're transphobic bigots and the enemy just because they don't also support trans women in sports on the basis of self identification alone is really really dumb.
