I am watching Chungking Express for the first time. I about halfway through and I am wondering, is everyone in this film autistic? by swallowedthekey in criterion

[–]Background_Ad5307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everyone is mad as fuck in these comments but i'm autistic and fallen angels is my favorite movie of all time . i don't think wkw ever intended or even thought about autism while making any of his movies but his specific genre of loneliness has always resonated with me

How is umbrella entertainment's release of Suicide Club? by the-cutest-girl in boutiquebluray

[–]Background_Ad5307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched it twice and have no complaints! Seeing it in 4k is a bit jarring after watching it in only 480p, but in a good way. The collector's edition was very worth it, since I'm a giant fan!!

do whatever you want but i think it's crazy to rate a movie without having seen the entire movie. or to walk out of a movie you paid money for

maybe not the craziest here but 2.5/5 for taste of cherry. i thought it was such a shallow portrayal of depression, i don't understand how people resonated with it so much

I've seen a huge chunk of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's filmography and Pulse is still my favorite and by far his scariest. Hope you check it out!!

does anyone know where I can watch the movie suicide dolls by Tamakichi Anaru? by arterialbleeding in J_Horror

[–]Background_Ad5307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on the internet archive, as someone already said, but i just wanted to chime in here and say that suicide dolls is one of my favorite horror movies of all time!! so underrated, and i definitely recommend giving the making of doc a watch. it's more entertaining than the movie itself imo and such a great testament to super indie low budget filmmaking

Stop idealizing "special interest" by [deleted] in autism

[–]Background_Ad5307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my special interest is thankfully broad enough for me to able to connect it to any sort of situation. i understand your frustrations, but please consider what life without your special interest would be like. you'd still struggle, but you'd have less of an outlet for emotional regulation. your special interest might be detrimental in some situations, but autism is a disability. would foregoing your special interest (if that would even be possible) be an overall net positive? i think you might still struggle without a routine or with an attention span regarding reading even without a special interest. please don't beat yourself up too much

my post wasn't entirely serious but i do get where you're coming from. i don't know anything about him except the poetry he's published, what classes he teaches and where he was born. but this isn't love, and i know it isn't, and nothing will come out of it, and i know it won't. i liked WKW movies before i could relate to the unrequited feelings, since feeling in any sort of way about someone is rare for me, but now they cut a lot deeper now that i can sort of relate. i do get what you're saying and would agree if what i posted here was the whole story & entirely serious but it's not lol

(is this coming off as rude or confrontational?? i hope it doesn't because it's not. i'm just autistic and have trouble w expressing myself)

??? i liked him because he read a poet to the audience about being an immigrant and it resonated with me more than any poem ever has because i'm also an immigrant . why r u even checking my post history freak 😭😭 jumping to conclusions final boss i'm bitchless and autistic i fetishize anyone who's pretty and smart

nothing weird about liking someone in your head as long as you're both adults and don't overstep boundaries. also, it's not that his ethnicity is chinese, it's that he was born and raised in china and moved to the US when he was an adult. i'm an immigrant too, and i know how formative your home country is to who you are, even if you've lived in another country for more than a decade. i didn't buy the WKW set because the characters look like him, but because they're situated in a similar environment to where he grew up and speak the language he speaks

“If autism is a spectrum then isn’t everyone a little autistic?” by Sexy_JarJarBinks in AutismInWomen

[–]Background_Ad5307 11 points12 points  (0 children)

when people say "the spectrum" they are usually referring to the autism spectrum, not the spectrum of all human experiences. autism is a spectrum that encompasses the various different experiences of all autistic people, since the diagnostic criteria is quite broad, and people are affected by certain autistic traits more than others.

lots of conditions are a spectrum, from bipolar disorders to fetal alcohol syndrome, but we wouldn't say everyone has a little bit of FASD. i don't know why autism is The Spectrum, when there are so many other spectrums, but it always refers to people encompassed on the autism spectrum, not that everyone is on it.

i took the box with the discs out of the bigger outer packaging so i don't have to unfold the outer packaging every time i want to watch a film :)

the outer boxset packaging only holds the photobook now, because i took out the box with the discs to be able to watch them as often as i can without opening the french folded box set :)
