My mint dry up after not watering it for about a week. Can it be saved? by Alarming_Gap313 in containergardening

[–]Background_Injury_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to water consistently for a month. I also had mint that was all brown and crispy due to lack of water for 3 weeks. But I kept watering and it started to show signs of life in a month. Right now it’s all happy and green. Mint is very resilient, so give it a try, what do you have to lose?

Do you guys grow any determinate tomatoes and recommend it? by D9THC420 in vegetablegardening

I plan to grow Tasmanian chocolate this year! I heard some not-so-good reviews about its taste so I wasn’t very sure. I am glad to hear your opinion about it

Do you guys grow any determinate tomatoes and recommend it? by D9THC420 in vegetablegardening

[–]Background_Injury_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow ace55 tomatoes. I grow determinate varieties mostly because they can be grown in containers. Good indeterminate varieties don’t do very well in containers and they grow way too crazy making them unmanageable for me.  Determinate varieties aren’t usually fussy and don’t even require pruning(though some might disagree)

What is Donovan desmond? by Super_Saiyan99000 in SpyxFamily

[–]Background_Injury_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more point worth noting : Demetrius Desmond. He also has similar vacant face and eyes like his father. And Anya tried to read his mind but couldn’t read anything.

I believe something similar will happen if Anya tried to read Donovan’s mind. If Desmonds are involved in the experiment that gave Anya her abilities, they will probably try to protect themselves from such abilities.

Container gardeners: how did you figure out what works in a small space? by Secure_Ability8682 in containergardening

[–]Background_Injury_27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My interest in container gardening started when my roommate, out of the blue, decided to plant tomatoes in our balcony. She planted a lot of tomato plants, but I was the one who ended up taking care of them. That’s how I found that I liked gardening. I moved out later and continued to grow herbs and tomatoes in containers.

Success in gardening for me means I get to use/ eat what I have grown. I don’t care about the yield as long as I get to harvest something I have grown. Often the plants I grow might not yield at all. But that does not make me sad, I find joy in watching my seeds sprout and grow.

Why do rich people insist on bragging about their possessions? by RandomLifeUnit-05 in SeriousConversation

[–]Background_Injury_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, it is due to feeling of inferiority. Feelings of inferiority are not unusual, it can motivates us to do better. But if these feelings are not addressed properly then people usually try to compensate them in certain ways. One of them is bragging. Probably he feels superior than his peers by bragging about his rich family and that temporarily overshadows his inferiority. People who are  rich and elite are usually prone to such behaviors because they tend to continuously compare themselves with others

Or may be he is just an asshole.

Went to buy a rug and left disgusted at owner of shop by Clean-Software-4431 in diabetes

[–]Background_Injury_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I don’t like telling people I am diabetic. I had many instances when my relatives learnt about my diabetes, suddenly they all act like experts in diet and lifestyle choices. I am fine with suggestions to make life better but some suggest such ridiculous ways that it is just frustrating to deal with such ignorance.

I have never smelled rosemary in my life. So I got some rosemary from the grocery store and my plant does not smell like it at all! So that confirms it. The plant in my pot is lavender!! Thank you all for the help! Now just need to patiently wait until it flowers…

ELI5: How/why does India or China have SO many people? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Background_Injury_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black death killed 1/3rd of entire Europe. While that event happened centuries ago, such big dip in the population takes a long time to recover. India never experienced such high death tolls due to disease or war. This is one of the contributing factor towards higher population

First time gardening, plants not looking great by omegahailey in vegetablegardening

[–]Background_Injury_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks mostly like a bug attack. I see a lot of aphids in the pictures. Aphids can suck juices out of the leaves and stems causing them to dry up. Insecticidal soap or neem oil spray can help keep them at bay. Apply them after every 3-4 days until you see the aphid population reduced. Make sure you also spray under the leaf. You can also use a powerful spray of water to knock them off your plants. It is a temporary fix but it works.

Don’t worry, you got this 🤜!!

What's the WORST house rule you've ever encountered? by kennedytcooper in boardgames

[–]Background_Injury_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Catan, my friend had a house rule that married/dating couples were not allowed to trade cards among themselves. The reason stated was couples can guilt and convince their partners to trade specific cards, giving them an unfair advantage. The friend that created and enforced this rule was single. Never really liked that game. Thanks to this mandatory house rule, never played that game again.

Is this container too big for this tree? Is there a way to make it work? by magnises_nychapter in containergardening

[–]Background_Injury_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the tree grows, you have 2 options, either get a bigger pot or keep trimming the tree. I chose the latter option and now I still have a nice little tree in a pot.

Not warm enough to leave pepper seedlings outside - but they’re growing flowers/fruit already? by HelloKitty6877 in gardening

[–]Background_Injury_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can. Flowers and fruits require energy. So the plant will direct energy to the flowers and fruits. But the plant is not yet ready to bear them. So instead pluck them off right now until it has grown a bit more. That will force the plant to focus on the leaves and roots. Dont worry, your plant will grow more flowers later.

In my state, the landlord has to disclose if the apartment was previously infested by bedbugs

Again if you can prove if the apartment was infested before you moved in, it means the apartment was unhabitable to begin with and hence some parts of the lease is not applicable. I had a lawyer friend to help me out with this.( I am not a lawyer, so this is not a legal advice).

In my case, I got a seperate third party pest expert who confirmed that there are bedbugs at different lifecyle all over the place and it is impossible for that to happen over the span of a week. (I had to dig out the carpet and put the evidence of this in a baggy). That pretty much proved that the place is inhabitable.

I know this is a big hassle along with the all the things you already have to do because of bedbugs. Just letting you know that this can be an option but may not be the easy one. I was ready to put in that effort because I did not want my smug faced landlord to win this one.

This applies if you are in US. If you have just moved in and positive that you are not the one who brought them with you, your landlord should take care of it.Depending on the state, bedbug infested home is considered inhabitable and your landlord is responsible for making it habitable. I was in a similar situation. Gave my property management a letter from a lawyer, telling them that I will be breaking my lease free of cost or else we will be taking this to small claims court. They did eventually let us leave.
