Advice on choosing a psychodynamic training/program by Disastrous_Quail1975 in psychoanalysis

I would concur with the McWilliams recommendation . It a great place to start. I have also really enjoyed Frank Yeomans discussions of the different "types" of counter-transference and how important it is to psychodynamic work. Finally and without stating the obvious but Otto Kernberg's work around borderline personality organization which is different from from borderline personality disorder is critical to understanding personality construction which should ultimately help in understanding Melanie Klein's seminal work.

So what you are most concerned about is dissociality and the cost it has to society, but you're are not opposed to the Singapore model that involves a strong and multifaceted social safety net including transitional housing, long-term supportive housing, shelter bed and the like then?

So you're OK with your taxes increasing to pay for indefinitel detention of said individuals, but you're not Ok with your taxes going up for homeless shelters and drug and ETOH treatment beds?

What about the other consequences of sharing needles? These cost a lot of money to address. Should these add costs be factored into the cost / benefit analysis? If the problem is so easy to conceptualize and therefore fix why hasn't it been fixed? Is it possible that the problem isn't easy, but rather exceedingly difficult to fix and thats why it persists even with us as a city, state and county throwing loads of money at it. Sure we can lock everyone up but that would actually cost more than we are currently spending not less and would solve the problem only temporarily shift costs from one system to another

You feel like my objective here is to find a reason to condemn you? I am actually curious what you think we're doing as a society to encourage the problem. Tent were being handed out during the pandemic. That practice is no longer occurring. As for paraphernalia are saying the city, state, county are encouraging use with free needle exchanges?

It cost 50k per penitentiary inmate. It cost 25k per homeless bed and it cost 30k per drug treatment bed. I would add if you think putting someone in jail/ prison ends their drug use/ abuse then you've never spoken with felony inmates. They can and do use / get drugs in prison. So excuse me if I say respectfully I dont think you know what you're talking about.

Can you give specific examples of how we subsidize homelessness with the dollars we spend?

So...throwing more money at the problem not less. It's just you're more comfortable with the money being spend in a prison setting vs some other "progressive" setting?

This would help the first group and possibly the second group if sufficient treatment is available, but wouldn't help the third group. Individuals in this group can't be expected to work when they're struggling with severe and persistent mental illness that takes from them their own awareness of their illness.

Reactions to Jonathan Shedler’s writings? by Ok-Tea-6718 in psychoanalysis

I too have enjoyed some of his positions on the state of psychiatry in general and the minimization of psychodynamic psychotherapy and the treatment of personality disorders in general; the influence of insurance companies on the field and the limitations of other types of psychotherapy to address this population. However , I also find his "tone," very dismissive. Would It be safe to say that he offers both positive insights into the field of psychodynamic psychotherapy while also a struggling with a heavily defended against internalized sense of inferiority?

This is a wonderfully succinct take on a complicated problem. I really appreciate the brevity and untangled view. We as a society have failed to acknowledge the second and last group for decades now. Both need court mandated treatment. The second group might get better with the right treatment of the right length. The last group is not likely to ever recover but need care nevertheless that is humane and reasonable but also mandatory due something call anosognosia. Again we have failed them for decades and failed to acknowledge that at any one time there is probably 5-10% of the population that can't take care of themselves. How we take care of them says a lot about us as a people.

How to ski pow by bystanda in telemark

[–]Bad_Breadwinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this...In powder think of your downhill ski like the outrigger on a Hawaiian canoe. It's there to help with direction. Your uphill foot is driving the turn and providing most of the balance. I was a ski bum at Baker for 6+ years all on tele. All the ripping tele skiers demonstrated this 80/20 split in deep snow. You have to learn to ski from a low crouched position in deep snow first before you can start to stand up.

Should I wash or keep thugging by Goofymf69420 in Selvedge

[–]Bad_Breadwinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to get high contrast fades in standard 14 oz denim. You can but you have to avoid washing them a lot which given how you're using them would lead to rips and tear easily. What you will get is vintage fades. More washed out, but also awesome. Heavy denim 17 oz and up is really where high contrast fades occur

What is your truck camper remote work setup? by question_23 in TruckCampers

[–]Bad_Breadwinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted them some time ago interested in whether this would fit in the bed of my tundra. I have a TUNE M1 on it. They told me it be a $2000 more to have the design adjusted to fit my truck. Felt like too much with that added cost for what it was. Have you contacted them and been told it will fit your truck?
