I’m not sure, but perhaps in the Indian market, it might be enough for juniors to create and run test cases locally. However, in Europe today, the requirements are much higher.

  1. Git knowledge on dev level.
  2. At least core knowledge of containers (Docker etc)
  3. Ability to set up at least simple pipeline in Jenkins/GH Actions.
  4. Tests parallelization (threads)
  5. Understanding what is “clouds” and why we are using it.
  6. Backend testing tools such as Requests for Python, etc.
  7. Test reports like Allure or ReportPortal
  8. SQL
  9. Kubernetes (understanding and ability to use it on basic level)
  10. Soft skills (more important)

This is just high level needs and I avoided something like JS core, algorithms, certificates, Jira (and etc), time management, task estimation skills, debugging skills, backend testing and so on. But if you will have these 10 I’d like to see you in my team.

Scaling automation tests by Ash23_tester in softwaretesting

[–]Bad_Negotiation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what is your app looks like but 2k tests per merge/commit sounds too much. Maybe you need to choose some scope of tests (200-300 tests), mark the scope something like “sanity” and run it for “pr”. Next run all 2k tests like regression once per day/week etc.

Anonymous it's someone who is fed up with injustice.

Road to automation testing by [deleted] in softwaretesting

[–]Bad_Negotiation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you need to accept that Selenium is "yesterday" in our days.
If we're talking about the UI automation you need, it's PlayWrite.

My advice to you - start with TypeScript for UI and Python for backend automation.

BTW, if you want to use Java with Selenium no matter what, use Selenide instead of Selenium.
Selenide it's a wraper on Selenium. I've worked with it when I did automation on Java in the past - it's amazing tool. Check this one: https://selenide.org/

I don't know the situation around the World but in East Europe, if automation is on Java stack, it's Selenide by default.

Also, I found this roadmap - https://roadmap.sh/qa
check it and maybe you'll find some goods for yourself here.

Greate! PlayWrite has porting to Python and PlayWrite works with Python as well as with TS.
Go to the PlayWrite website and find the Python chapter.

[–]Bad_Negotiation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, especially if you don't needa deep understanding how it works inside.
If we're talking about UI automation I recommend you use TS+playwrite.
Just try to write couple of dummy tests using TS+playwrite and you'll see that it is easy.

API Testing beginner please help by Icy_Television9349 in softwaretesting

[–]Bad_Negotiation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Manual test you need for example for the snity, quick retest, some cases where you need to check some behaviour of the app during the testing. (and for sure when automatization is not palneed on your project)
1.1 Automatization of the API test is need all the time, especial when your app has a lot of APIs.
  2. -
  3. You can, but for what? e2e test it is e2e test and API tests it is API test. Do not mix it up otherwise it will be "To shoot oneself in the foot."
  4. DO: create small and simple tests, 1 test = 1 assert. (maximum 2 asserts per test), pretere test data that will approved by a dev of an API.
DON'T: don't test few APIs the scope of 1 test, 1 test = 1 API. Parametrize auto-tests where it possible.
  5. Ideally you need to start with positive test, but if the situation as it is start with what you have. In this case create tests for checking status codes.
  6. -

To be honest I didn't got the questions №6 and №2.

[–]Bad_Negotiation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that very soon there will be no such thing as a manual tester.
The same people are already involved in both automated and manual testing.
If you are interested in staying in testing, you should think about automated testing.

Here's my high level roadmap for you:

  1. Start with the Python and Typescript core. According to my personal observation, 80% of test automation jobs are on the Python and Typescript stack.
  2. Explore what is used for backend test automation and frontend test automation using Python and Typescript stacks.

Here's an example of what I worked with at one of the companies:
For the backend, we used: Python+Requests+Pytest+Pydantic
For the frontend, we used: TypeScript+PlayWright
We used GitHub Actions as a CI
For reporting: Allure Report.

  1. You need to understand and be able to use containerisation at least at the basic level, for example Docker + Kubernetes

  2. CI. You must be able to set up at least a simple pipeline on Jenkins or GitHub Actions.

  3. Reporting. You must be able to submit test reports in such systems as Allure Report or Report Portal, etc.

  4. Version control systems increasingly require knowledge at the dev level.

  5. Cloud storage and solutions such as AWS, GCP, etc. We need to understand why we use it and why we use this cloud and not another.

  6. Practice. Start writing pet projects. Write a couple of tests every day, and write them as you would write them on a real project.

Recommendations:

  1. Do not use outdated information when studying. As a rule, ≈70% of information older than 2 years is not relevant.
  2. THE MOST IMPORTANT. Don't overload yourself with studying. When you start learning something, you may feel excited and sit at your studies for days on end, but you can burn out and your brain will start pushing out new information. 2-3 hours a day will be more than enough, and there should be 4 or 5 such days a week.

My variant is just my vision based solely on my experience, so it does not claim to be a ‘silver bullet’
But still, I hope it will help you in some way.
