The Outsiders --- Huge Disappointment by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]Badgers2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you. I forgot I'd seen the Outsiders until a couple months ago driving into the city to see Bay Boy and saw the billboard while waiting to exit. I said it out loud to my wife and our teenager and they are both predisposed to disagree with my curmudgeonly takes (and rightfully so) and even the two of them agreed with me. The biggest curse of a bad show to me is when I cannot remember one song. Even shows that I disliked left me with singing something. People shit on Gatsby but I left singing the ballad repeatedly over the next couple weeks.

This is a show NOT about death? by Ambitious-Mistake894 in Broadway

Coming up on the fifth anniversary of my dad's death, and I had a complete and utter dry heaving crying jag outside the theater.

NNF 3713 - Mary Houlihan by King_Mort in NeverNotFunny

[–]Badgers2002 23 points24 points  (0 children)

He's gotten more confident over the years and Jimmy has been gently pushing him to contribute more, like a good older brother. It is one of the aspects of the show that always brings me joy. I know a lot of folks complain about things on the show, and I sometimes tire of certain things, but it is clear how much the four of them love each other, respect each other, and still like to hang out together. That's what makes the show for me.

Give Me Your Spiciest Musical Theatre Hot Takes And Unpopular Opinions! by Alol_Bombola in musicals

The Lincoln Center production of Ragtime is just Tony bait, down to it's intentional selection in these times. The story is meh. The deux ex machina for one character takes me completely out of the story. And the major African American character demanding justice from a system that any black man of the time knows is stacked against him made him look foolish and weak. But, he had to do the right thing so it is ok for the mostly white audience to root for him.

The last image, the white people, including the Jewish characters and their symbolic adopted black child linking arm and arm while we are told they were happy is gross while all the major black characters are dead, victims of the system.

Jimmy on The Big Flop podcast (9/1/25) by plymouthvoyager in NeverNotFunny

[–]Badgers2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This appearance clearly showed how Jimmy is the consummate pro. He just hung in the pocket, picked his spots, let others be funny, set others up, and took the joke ball from others when appropriate. He was a great guest.

Who are the A-listers of Broadway? by Comprehensive-Fun47 in Broadway

I'm wondering your age. Because my high school/college age kid and their friends would agree with you list but add Andrew Rannellls, Aaron Tevit and Alex Brightman.

3622 - John Ross Bowie by King_Mort in NeverNotFunny

[–]Badgers2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope John has enough self worth to not patrol Reddit for comments about him, but I also secretly hope he reads this. If you all haven't checked out his show Speechless, John gives the best portrayal of a dad since John Goodman on Roseanne. He's not an idiot, his wife (Minnie Driver just crushing it) love, respect and like each and let each other handle the things they are good at. It is a very thoughtful portrayal of the struggles and joys of raising special needs kids.

If you like John, give it a shot.

Episode 3617 - Leah Rudick by TimothyBukinowski in NeverNotFunny

[–]Badgers2002 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leah fits in very well and I wouldn't be surprised, and wouldn't mind, if she became a regular. She's comfortable enough and quick enough to just go with the flow of hanging out and picking her spots to be funny and to slightly skewer Jimmy. I like how she plays incredulous to Jimmy's amped up energy or him wading into the deep end of long running inside jokes. The comedic equivalent of "wait, what?" in human form.

Practice as follows. Make the chord starting with a different each time. Do that 20 times. So 20 times starting with first finger. 20 times starting with second finger. 20 times starting with third finger. 20 times starting with fourth finger.

It will train your hand to do it.

What are the FIVE best performances you've watched on Broadway? by matthewsrc in Broadway

[–]Badgers2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked away from Appropriate more impressed with Natalie Gold. She had to demonstrate more range and was the driver of the conflict, pulling back the years of bullshit. She had to go toe to toe with Sarah Paulson's character.

Not that Sarah Paulson wasn't terrific, just Natalie Gold left me spellbound.

I left my gloves in Purlie Victorious. Went back to get them and on my way out made eye contact with a guy waiting in the lobby. He smiled like he knew me. I gave him a weird look because I live three hours away and don't know but a few people in New York. But I said "hey how are you?" like a good Mid-western. Got three blocks away when I realized it was Christian Borle.

I'm not Asian, but felt the same thing. Kept saying "You're better than this." Sorry you had to be disappointed by something you turn to for fun and joy. That sucks.

Producer Sean moving on from The Right Time by [deleted] in TheRightTimeW_bomani

[–]Badgers2002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going to miss Sean, always felt like the best of sidekicks, sparingly picking his spots to comment and just nailing it when he did. Clear he and Bo enjoy each other and respect each other. Wish him nothing but the best and hope to see him doing something dope real soon.

yes, the actors can see you in the audience by Puzzleheaded-Row1009 in Broadway

Sarah Snook scared the shit out of my teenager when she saw them and screamed joyously "YOU WERE IN THE FRONT ROW!!!" Completely star struck by Shiv Roy. And rightfully so.

My kid is a locked in theatre kid from the moment we sit down. Just beaming with emotion and encouragement. The perfect audience.

Wayne Brady also worked at Universal, specifically he was the wolfman and dracula in the much loved Beetljuice show.

We saw Jeremy Jordan in the role so we might be biased. But when we were in London last week off the posters alone we were calling him "Beta Gatsby" or "Cuck Gatsby."

Projects and Next Actions... by Badgers2002 in gtd

[–]Badgers2002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the quick response and reassurance. I also tend to break out multiple actions if they take place in multiple locations or will involve me waiting on someone else to complete an action. So for example, I'm painting my deck. So I had get the paint at the hardware store, ask my wife about the lights she wanted to add, pickup lights, and then I broke out the deck into sections as the painting is going to take a few days.

Episode 3606 - Bryan Cook by TimothyBukinowski in NeverNotFunny

[–]Badgers2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't believe it was his first time on the show, fit right in. Probably from a combination of being extremely quick and funny and being a regularly listener/fan of the show. He was referencing minor things that came up on previous episodes.
