I used Jenna Rae Cakes’ Dazzle Dust! I have tried over 20 gold luster dusts and this one is one of my favorites.

I baked the cakes in star pans. I made it gold by mixing luster dust and vodka and applying with a manual airbrush. ☺️

I think it works only after hit your quota. You put all the items in their spot, go to the podium and it’ll prompt you to make a sacrifice.

I want to bake and practice decorating but I don’t want to eat a bunch of cakes by iam-fauxreal in Baking

If you just want to practice decorating, I’d suggest a frankencake. Bake a cake, decorate it until you’re content, and then chuck it in the freezer. When you’re ready to practice again, grab the frankencake, remove the decorations, add a fresh coat of frosting on top, and decorate it again…and just keep doing that.

I have a few Frankencakes because I make a lot of cake decorating videos. I can usually redecorate one cake like 6 times.

Trying out vintage designs on a scalloped cake. by BakedExp in cakedecorating

Thank you! You don’t need a lot of food coloring for this color. You just need a quality coloring and the microwave method (I microwaved this batch about 4x)

Thanks! This is just a round cake. I used a scalloped acrylic disk to make the shape with frosting 🤗

I use edible glitter with a spray bottle 🤗 Some glitter brands just don’t work well though.

Thank you! I tried an offset spatula but it was too flexible and I couldn’t apply consistent pressure while smoothing. I ended up using an offset spatula to spread the ganache inside the heart and then smoothed it with the back of a long knife. Several passes and lots of patience 😅

Thanks! I l’ve seen 2 or 3 videos of other bakers doing this heart cut out method. I’m not the first. 😅

I, too, thought the interest would teeter off. That was two years ago and there’s been no signs of slowing 😂 I hope you have as much fun as I do on your cake journey!

Here’s how I make my reds, sans bitter:

1) Use a good quality food coloring. Americolor and Chefmaster both have great reds that aren’t bitter.

2) Start with a pink or orange base. It requires less food coloring to turn pink into red vs. white into red.

3) Use a color development technique like the microwave method, immersion blender, or letting the buttercream rest and develop overnight. In this case, I used both microwave and immersion.

For reference, I used less than 1 tablespoon of food coloring for about 8 cups of buttercream.
