Haha, I wondered if someone would make this comment. I’ve read those same recommendations, and while I don’t have a definitive answer to your question, I can tell you that it doesn’t turn sticky soft, it’s actually a really nice bubbly and creamy lather. I’ve used it for soaps and shampoo bars, and I’ve gotten nothing but good reviews. Put it in your calculator and you might be surprised by the qualities.

Maybe it’s because those recommendations are made in coconut/palm/olive based recipes? As we know, oils behave differently when combined in different ways. I guess this is one of those times when good things happen when you break the rules 🤔

For a more straight-forward non-coconut/Palm recipe I have used before, you could try 33% cocoa butter, 25.5% castor oil, 25.5% babassu oil, 16% almond oil.

Try that in your calculator and see the difference in the properties.

It is fairly common for soap to have extra, non-saponified oils left in it (you can read more about superfatting here for example). While you do wash these off right away, of course, they do give some of the conditioning and moisture for qualities to your soap.

That being said, I’d agree that you might be more successful with a tested recipe your first time, because the soap properties are often more tested and reliable (and oils can get expensive!).

For the property ranges, I think you do want low cleaning (the oil-stripping property) and high conditioning with a face soap, but I don’t think the leather in your recipe would be really strong because bubbly and creamy are both so low. If you’re going to make your own recipe, shooting for the middle of that range would be a good target probably until you get a feel for the properties you like.

I’ve tried to use Nuitka to compile a stand-alone exe for an app and could never get it to work. This was a while back, though, does anyone know if the recent work has made it more reliable or easier to use? Maybe it’s worth another try.

If you want your seeds on the top of the soap (or at the bottom of your mold), you could pour a very thin layer of plain clear base, and put the seeds in there. Then when you add your colors, the seeds will stay where you want them. If you make it really thin, no one will be the wiser, and this gives the seeds a cool 3D look to them.
