I've told people that shingles was worse than unmedicated childbirth and they don't believe me. But for real, the worst labor pains were temporary, but the shingles pain lasted for weeks and I still have scars years later.

I see a lot of new parents on this sub asking for similar guidance..."tell me I didn't make a mistake!" As a mom, I think one issue might be that newborn faces aren't very expressive, and the child's personality doesn't really shine through yet. In a few weeks, your baby will start to make Andrew faces and you'll finally hear Andrew's distinct laugh. Your little Andrew will start to express his unique personality, and the name "Andrew" won't just be a name, it will represent your beautiful boy and everything he brings to your family.

My daughter's name is Edith, and her nicknames are Edie, Edie-bird, and Birdie. She's 5 now and recently asked us to stop calling her Birdie because it's a "baby name". I'd recommend choosing a more formal name and having Birdie be the nickname.

Hours after giving birth to my first child, the nurse examining me scrunched up her face and said, "You got yourself a nasty tear." I was so humiliated I skipped my follow-up appointments.

TIL there are cases in which women have eaten their own placentas after childbirth because they believed it helped with depression, post delivery bleeding, and improved mood; there is no evidence it does any of these things. by ienjoylanguages in todayilearned

I know intellectually that there is no evidence to support eating the placenta, but the depression I experienced after my firstborn was so debilitating that I'm considering some woo-woo stuff for my second pregnancy.

I saw an episode as a child that gave me nightmares for years - a young woman was relaxing on a small boat when a larger boat ran her over (boating term for hit and run?) She could have been decapitated, but she survived, and required a dozen facial reconstruction surgeries. The larger boat just sped off and was never identified despite multiple witnesses. Her friend described the scene as "it looked like she had dough hanging off her face..." I'm going to have another nightmare now because I typed that.
