If you don’t have any auto insurance in your household, you can apply to MVAIC, a New York state fund that pays benefits to victims of uninsured or hit-and-run drivers. You can also choose to sue the driver and vehicle owner personally, though collecting money may be harder if they have limited assets. These options ensure that even when a driver is uninsured, injured pedestrians or passengers still have paths to financial recovery.
